Yeh he probably wen by his own will.
Just like the one in Hungary 2010 in front of my eyes... how did he know that there were no cars coming the next couple of seconds?

We have seen it earlier before. They don't want to sent out a SC at the end of the race for this sort of things, because they don't want to finish behind after a SC.


The "safety" car: very important if the race lacks excitement but screw safety at the end of a race.

Before, marshals would retrieve debris under double waved flags instead of a SC/VSC. They were being run over all the time :(

I assume they have a radio system and maybe a spotter from the corner before said it was ok to go get it because there was a gap.

And as bad as it looked, vettel did see him so that obviously meant he wasn't going to deliberately turn the sochi race into a new version of carmageddon.
