A week between Monza and the money race - that's gonna be a massive logistical nightmare

Would be fun if Hulkenberg chose to skip the Baku GP to do Le Mans

Exactly! I really hope he does and FI backs him on that! When we think we saw everything from FIA... well, with Jean Todt there, I'm sure much worse is still yet to happen!

This quote from Paul Hembrey in regards to Red Bull and F1 I think is important, as its gotten lost massively amongst this engine saga.

"They're also a team that goes outside of the Formula 1 circus to promote the sport, they invest significant sums of money in going to new locations, taking F1 to the streets of cities that don't stage F1 to try and create interest. So from our point of view, as a sponsor, any risk of losing both those teams would be a significant disaster for Formula One."

Yes it is for marketing and promotion of Red Bull, but they sure do promote F1 well away from the race track more so than other teams.

I actually think they will pull the plug because they have gotten themselves into a situation where they can't not quit.

But again, the question is....where the fuck is the President of the FIA? The man presiding over the Federation's flagship product is no where to be seen while it just spirals out of control into a pile of shit. He's probably to busy trying to sue someone over a radio interview about his mate.

Yes, I know it has, but judging by the reactions here, people seem to believe F1 is deliberately making it impossible for it's drivers to do Le Mans.

I will be asking a question after opening my 5th beer this fine evening, so excuse me if I'm thick here.

While I agree with most of the rants around here over F1, how could they deliberately fuck Hulk (or anybody else wanting to do Le Mans) over? Aren't both the WEC and F1 sanctioned by the FIA? Or is this Bernie? Enlighten me.

Hasn't Le Mans clashed with the Canadian GP like 5 of the last 10 odd years?

It's not deliberate, there are 1000's events to book sometimes they clash.

But not all are as popular as Le Mans and/or F1. And if (partly) sanctioned by the same organization its dumb to clash.

It's like holding Daytona 500 and indy 500 on the same day if both NASCAR and IRL would be sanctioned by the same group.

Bernie creates the calendar and it is then ratified by the FIA's WMSC.

It is plainly deliberate, because twinning a new race as the second of a back-to-back is unusual, with Canada to Azerbaijan hardly an easy hop. Ie, long-haul flight plus about an eight hour time difference.

That was before it was part of an FIA world championship. Since becoming WEC, Canada has been moved to the week before. As phil said, the date makes zero sense from any standpoint.

Plus it's not as if this would be the first time that Bernie tries to work against another successful series.

First test moved a week forward, to February 22 with the second test being in March 1st. That also means there's one week less between the last test and the first race.

Meanwhile, Alguersuari's retired from racing.

Yeaa he did, they were trying to find out what was wrong with him after collapsing and having his license pulled for medical reasons. Guess it's serious :(

Edit:

Apparently not illness related but not enjoying racing any more.

Going all Godfather against ex-FIA doctors and ex-Ferrari Ferrari Chief Mechanics... that's where.

Good, there aren't alot of likable drivers in F1 that are on his level, I do think 2016 will most likely be his last, unless the Honda/Mclaren package improve alot...
