So, BMW not denying looking at a WEC P1-project. *crossing fingers*

That was also mentioned during the N24 broadcast. Would be terrific!

That article mentions that two manufacturers are possibly looking at entering. Anyone know who the other might be?

It would be brilliant as both of my favourite German marques, Porsche and BMW might be racing together. I only want Bentley to return to Le Mans!

Hadn't Peugeot been mentioned, some weeks ago, to be possibly back in 2017?

Ian-S, Mercedes knows they can only beat Ferrari and Renault. The beating they get from BMW/Audi on DTM and other GT competitions is enough :whistling:

“if you take BMW as a global brand we are not a slow follower or a fast follower, we are setting new paths, which we have shown with ‘i’ so I don’t think we need to follow what everyone does. The WEC is still following and what we need to figure out is a new path that suits BMW, like with ‘i’

Sounds almost like the blahblah Nissan kept saying before finally doing it. And BMW isn't in Formula E either, so stfu or just do it.

That and McLaren mentioned in another German story that came on the same day that the one where this RCE story is based on. GTE for both. Everyone seems to expect Ford's announcement to be made on LM week.

Quote:
France's largest car manufacturer had a loss of nearly 2.3 billion euro in 2013, which it managed to lower to 555 million euro in 2014
http://www.retaildetail.eu/en/eur-europ ... years-time

Quote:
Peugeot, Europe's second-largest auto maker by volume, has been struggling to return to profit after racking up more than €7 billion ($9.4 billion) of net losses in 2012 and 2013.
http://www.wsj.com/articles/peugeot-cit ... 1406703119

Looking at Peugeot's finance, yeah, any cost is too much for them, really :p

Fiat Chrysler Group made a relatively small profit in the last year(around 700 million dollars), but who knows, Nissan made only 850 million dollars and are here.

BMW have a lot more positive finance(6.2 billion dollars in profit, last year). For reference, Mercedes/Daimler's 2014 profit was only 1.24 billion dollars meanwhile VAG and Toyota have net profits in the double digits billions and their 2015 has been on the rise of what was already a very healthy 2014(poor everybody else).

When is the last time we had a good number of manufacturers at Le Mans?

Was it 1998/1999 with BMW, Mercedes, Toyota and Nissan?

1998 had Porsche and McLaren as well, while 1999 introduced Audi replacing Porsche.

And now I'm going to spend the whole day watching LM24's from those years.

I know there have been A LOT of great grids in the 60s/70s/80s, but for me the 1998 grid is the ultimate holy grail. It has literally all my favourite cars combined. Obviously it has something to do with that era being the very first tiny actual memory of Le Mans for me (I'm from 1992).

"Formula One needs to solve its problems on its own," says Audi Chief Executive Ruppert Stadler and rules out an entry into Formula 1.

Good news

I think that was a public answer to Helmut Marko using Audi as a political pawn earlier (http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/formula1/32688667).

On the other hand just last week Stadler flirted with the idea on Auto Express, so expect this at least quarterly rumor to come up soon again in some form.
