There's something about both of them I've never liked. I had multiple business interactions with Graeme about 15 years ago, he was always fairly obnoxious.

Yep. It's not great seeing a letter from FOM in the post threatening to take you to court just for trying to bring f1 fans together.

The main head of the operation nationally has had to take the flak on this so it's not been too bad for me regionally but still...they're a multi billion pound media empire and I'm a guy with an audio recorder down the pub for a podcast.
not exactly something i dan fight.
They wouldn't just sue us either, also the pubs we are staging our events at, our Website hosts and even the pubs Web hosts.
As much as we understand how FOM operate, these guys don't and are more likely to pull you offline out of fear.

Btw all this happened to us over a year ago now. Included in all the threats was a promise that if this was dicussed anywhere, Even on boards such as this, that would also invite legal action.
Just recently it seems to have leaked out so I don't know whats changed in they at regard.

Mmmm hmmm. Especially as before I was involved Kris who set it all up did all the required due diligence and even contacted FOM who said they were not only ok with the idea but would support it any way they could.

For them to then change their minds 2 years later is a big kick in the crotch.

Their actions regarding YouTube videos made me dislike FOM, but this is just absurd. What if all websites decided to stop covering F1 related things? They'd be in quite some trouble I suppose.

Do you or Kris have this in writing from FOM? If so, fuck them. You're fine.

Don't know, probably an email. too late now anyway. We did what we were told. :yuk:

They don't just demand you change your name away from their trademark, they go through every page of your website and related social media accounts to make sure it hasn't appeared anywhere else or a photo hasn't been used etc.
Since I changed the f1inbrum twitter account to Msportpubsbrum (catchy :o ) a spam account has appeared In the f1inbrum name and they've been back onto us saying it is using a copyrighted image for its profile picture but we've told them there's nothing we can do about spam accounts in our old names so they can't touch us on this one.

They also demanded not only we closed f1inpubs.Co.uk but that the url forwarded to f1.com after a certain date.
its a complete firebomb attack on anyone with f1 in their name. All for the crime of trying to bring fans together.

I own an domain with F1 in it, have done so since 2001. Let them come after me.

How about people who write about and use the term F1? Is this about the trademarked logo, the name, the term, or all of the above? FOM could be attempting to go down a rathole here.

They're mental, fom are mental! If I can come back to the YouTube and social media thing, which sorta links, and tell a short story.
I have always thought basketball was pretty cool, but it's not been very accessible in the uk. But the nba have a dedicated YouTube channel, a Facebook page and twitter account that link to it and they put up cool vids from the games almost everyday. This is what has made me interested again in the sport in recent years. Without that level of free media I wouldn't watch. It reaches people.

F1 needs this, so many fans can be brought in this way. Their sponsors can be advertised on the channel. It's idiotic to not use it. Drives me mad.

Really, *Trademark infringement removed* needs to appeal to younger fans. how does FOM not realise that? Older people do die of old age and if they turn all the young fans away then who'll end up watching *Trademark infringement removed*?

With this arse-backwards approach to promotion, F1 doesn't deserve to succeed. I'll laugh the day it finally collapses.

Renault are saying there power unit will produce 850Bhp this year.
http://www.f1fanatic.co.uk/2015/01/29/f ... d-up-2901/

I read not long ago that Mercedes were producing around 820bhp last year so be interesting to see what there new power unit will be producing this year.

Just proves what I said last week, They don't need to change anything with a specific target of 1000bhp because these power units are going to produce more power over the next few years anyway as we go through the natural development cycle & its probably we will just end up at 1000bhp without any additional changes to the regulations.

Bernie would sue keyboard manufacturers for having and f1 key if he could .

Don't forget he tried to register the phrase "grand prix" as exclusively his too despite the myriad of snooker, athletics, motorcycle etc events using that term.
Guy will explore every little avenue. Apparently the law states If you're not actively trying to protect your trademark, you lose it.

Formula E are leading the way in social media interaction and it appears to be working.
f1 looks like to be going the way of speedway and stock car racing in the uk, (no offence marv), ignoring the modern world and wishing it was 1975 all over again.

I suggest changing this forum section's name to that.
PHPBB even has an option to change certain words so we should do that too.
