I still remember a lot of F1 sponsors from back when I was a kid. In my mind it's still a bit connected with F1. So Bernie; see it as a future investment. Stupid dick.

Basicly he's snubbing Red Bull, Monster, Burn and Renault (and I probably missing a lot of other sponsors) with this comment as those all target the younger audiences

Then again this comment is perfect timing because it will distract from the real problems. Sadly no-one has the balls to do something about it. Red Bull should threaten to pull out with immediate effect because of this comment. That means 14 cars for Abu Dabi.

He has to be taking the piss doesn't he? Cause not even I think he is that senile.

Well, memo to Bernie if he is serious, I activley starting watching every single race when I was 13 in 1994. No, I wasn't old enough to enjoy the silky smooth taste of Rothmans, or consult my trusty elegant Tissot, or down my ice cold Bitburger beers. But I was old enough to buy some team merchandise and purchase my car racing magazines (badgering my parents of course). F1 did leave such an impression on me that I follow it avidly even today, and attended several races, and have actually used some of the current sponsors products.

But here's the kicker. If suitable interest is generated at a young age, and is engaging, then that life long passion is born, which in turn has a high probability of leading to subliminal purchases of current sponsors products...cause you know, I now have money and actually watch the races, giving me greater exposure to said sponsors.

If I felt that the sport wasn't engaging and boring when I was young, I wouldn't be following it today. I would have been one of the casual early 30s guys that tuned out when Seb was winning everything. Tell me, when was the last time any of you discovered something in your early 30s for the first time and avidly follow it like a 13 year old boy discovering the same thing at the same time. Hardly think the mid 30 year old guy is gonna wake up at 3 am on a Monday morning to watch the Brazilian GP.

I never started smoking, but I once did buy a shirt because I saw the brand on the beautiful Jordan of 1997. Oliver I think it was.

I did smoke and must admit F1 influenced my choice of brand.

I smoked Camel and Marlboro partly because my dad smoked Camel and Marlboro was THE brand and also because of F1. But I also tried Chesterfields because of the BMS Lola sponsored by them. I was so proud when some British guys gave me a pack of Rothmans and I tried Gitanes (they where too strong for us, almost cigars) and if I could have found them I would have tried Mild Seven.

Marketing works in both ways.

Sutil is sponsored by capri sun, a brand of child fruit juice :p

I never really made my buying decisions relying F1 sponsors, but I started disliking red bull some years ago (but I drink if those promoters give me a free can)

Anybody who gives to this is an idiot and should give their money to something more worthwhile instead like a homeless shelter.

It's disgusting to think we have 90000 children homeless in this country and people would rather give their money to this crook.

Not only I agree with all of this, but I didn't miss Caterham and Marussia at all. Actually, I enjoyed getting rid of those useless cars that were only there to be on people's way. Q1 was far more interesting without them.
