Nope, just the people that do can't be arsed getting involved with the pointless insults game. Quite removed from his nationality, I like Will because he's extremely talented, aggressive (sometimes too much), actually speaks his mind, is hilarious on twitter, a road racer who's actually learned to win on ovals, and usually fesses up when he's screwed up, like he did today.

Just to lend another side to the story.

I want to like Will, and those are all good reasons to like him. But I just can't support a driver who goes round calling everyone else in the paddock a wanker when he quite often acts/drives like a massive wanker himself. There was an interview with him before Texas either this year or last year (can't find it for the life of me now, unfortunately) in which he said the racing was better now because the aero package "kept the wankers at the back". I'm sorry, but you can't go around saying that when you've lost multiple championships due to not being able to drive round an oval to save your life. Hypocrites really wind me up.

Not that I want him to stop acting the way he does. He's a character, and characters are good for a championship whether you like them or not.

My wife is from Frankston (Melbourne suburb) so I don't hate Will. Great people and country. Just a little concerned.

Everyone in nascar knew Tim Richmond and Mayfield and some others were out of control on hard drugs and ignored it till they both blew up. You couldn't look at either one of them in person and tell for sure (except in late 1986 with TR) and... some people who are stone cold clean just get torqued up on adrenaline and look wild as all hell. Still and all, Will kinda had that Charlie Manson look today, IMO.

Yeaa, he can be a bit of a knob but so can others. Unfortunately it seems most people latch onto that more then other drivers.

That's more a critique about the ridiculous old aero rules on superspeedways though, where due to it being foot to the floor flat chat racing anyone could luck out and be at the front.

IMO he was right on the money there.

Ed "I'm sorry the race was so boring for the fans" Carpenter after the first Superspeedway race after Las Vegas 2011 (when most Indycar fans rejoiced at the racing and breathed a huge sigh of relief that these cars COULD race on high banked ovals safely again)
was a lot more classless tbh.

If they had run the race, and it had been a clusterfuck, you guys would have bitched just as much as if they didn't run it.

It's an interesting situation.

It's a racing forum, we're hell of a lot more likely to bitch about a lack of racing than a crazy race.

TBH they could've got this race in if they'd been brave, run maybe 5/6 more caution laps before the green, then just let it run.

Yeah, there would've been incidents, but that's what you get in wet races...
It's been wet here before and the race wasn't a complete clusterfuck (start crash nowithstanding)

I guess in the age of lawsuits and complicated insurance rules, organiser bravery just isn't an option any more, you're expected to err on the side of caution even when conditions are acceptable.
We see it in Europe with FIA series, we saw it with NASCAR at Road America and now with Indycar....
Modern world, I guess.

A few years back I despised Will Power but since then I've greatly warmed to him. Yes he can say some dumb stuff but typically he's just being honest and it's refreshing to have people of his ilk in this day and age of media trained puppies. And he's also a fantastic hard racer.

Unfortunately conditions like this on a street course are more dangerous then on a more open permanent course. Considering how hard it was to see cars in the pack just on the pace laps they made the right choice. Especially as Paul pointed out, we're in a fucking annoying sue happy age.

It's a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" type of situation. Either way, IndyCar's not going to win any favors with their fans.

Frankly, I'm pissed that they couldn't make their minds up.

Seems I'm one of the only people the other way round then. I used to like Power but now I think he's a bit of a twat

There's better ways of putting it though. It's not even like he was saying anything new - anyone with half a brain knew the new style of racing was better. It seemed like more of an opportunity for a dig at certain drivers - justified maybe, but not from someone who's notoriously shit at ovals themselves.

At TBK we bitch about everything, including bitching.

Congratulations, you just described pretty much anything that we can voice our opinions without the risk of getting punched in the face!

Bitchception (has that joke died yet? I'm curious...)

Question: Indycar.com lists Race 1 airing on NBCSN. Doesn't that conflict with their Tour de France coverage? :?

In all honesty. I cant blame Indy whatsoever for delaying the race today. In fact, I can only PRAISE them for trying their best to get the race started despite the absolute shit conditions. No other series would have even CONSIDERED having the cars running some laps behind the pace car. And the fact that the PACE CAR crashed into the wall and they STILL went to green? Come on man, thats ballsy shit. Indy just moved several places up on my list.

I was sort of wondering what they were going to do. F1 is on CNBC in the morning. Maybe they'll kick the Indycar race over to immediately follow that or show it on MSNBC? I think the Tour coverage goes well into the 11 o'clock hour.
