Right. I don't understand this qualifying format. In idiot language that I can understand, what are we watching right now, and what does it decide?

9 cars go for pole, fastest of yesterday runs last. Just like the double single run qualifying in F1 a few years ago

Positions 10-33 are now set.

What is about to happen is that the 9 fastest run setters from yesterday will run in reverse order to determine the first 3 rows of the grid.

This is actually one of the parts of the old system that was carried over, except it used to happen on the Saturday and not the Sunday.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

Well if they're fucking with tradition, might as well go the whole hog and have all 9 cars out at the same time.

I know it's Indy so we'll watch anything there, but single car qualy isn't usually great to watch.

It would have been better to just run all 33 cars in reverse order of yesterday and don't bother with the groups.

Was it ever confirmed what car part hit Hinch?

Also, that was a great piece on Sam Schmidt.

Agreed. It's sad that his crash and subsequent concussion put him in this situation, but it really helps to have someone in the booth who's most recent race wasn't 10+ years ago, and knows how these cars act.

Montoya in 10th could have set the fastest time of the day, only 3 more to go to beat that time

Indeed. Bestwick keeps saying shitty things like "Well, I guess we know Helio is going to have a good final lap based on the 3 we've seen, could be locked on for pole" And Dario comes back with actual real information like "well...no actually, he's having a wiggle there and he looks slower"

So glad he's there.
