Is the sound really that big of problem? Or is it just a stick the organizers use to beat with and get out of their contracts?

Based on the races I watched this season the sound wasn't the problem for me.

Congratulations F1, on turning a non-problem (people would get used to the sound, hell, I think a lot of people already are used to it) into a laughing stock.

FFS!!! FIA bringing in sound experts to help them figure out how to make the sound better
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/113945

How about experts on making the cars look half decent? Or experts on making the racing more exciting without making it artificial? And financial experts for finding a way to cut costs while keeping the F1 name up?

but no, the sound is the single most important thing that is destroying F1. *sigh*

the worst thing is I don't really care anymore.
I watched F1 last Sunday with half an eye. While in the past I would consider it dramatic missing out on qualifying or race, I feel I could miss it now - not even feeling the need to watch a complete rerun.

Same here. And while I partly blame it on me getting older and having less time for this and other things to worry about I also think it's because the overall package just isn't that interesting anymore.

It feels like it's slowly being taken away from us. It's not for us to watch anymore but the rich people in the VIP rooms.
I enjoyed the rerun of a Nationwide race more on Motors TV I happened to watch than watching the F1 race. Kinda felt like coming home.

Let's stay on the bright side. I stumbled upon a full race video of the 2012 Brazilian GP and, eventhough I knew the result, I stayed hooked and almost got late to work in the morning because of it.

2012 was one of the best seasons ever in F1. It happened, live, right before our eyes, less than 2 years ago. Sure we can live through a couple more 'calm' seasons before the madness comes back again.

This year will see a full-on battle for the championship between Lewis and Nico. As for the rest of the field, remember that in 1998 we went from McLaren lapping the whole field in the first couple races, to Schumacher pushing like a madman in Japan to almost rob the title from Mika. I know, different time, different rules, more testing allowed, but still.

The thing is, all this video seems to underline is that the cars still sound pretty damn loud from trackside. It does seem that the TV coverage is the problem.

indeed. I always wondered why didn't they raised the sound level for races in V10/V8 era, when the loudness was suited for fans

Nobody here who has been to a GP/test to listen in person? I'm quite curious what the real deal is, as a microphone or a recording is always subjective to settings and equipment

That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen on a modern F1 car.

F1 needs to implement whistle tips.

That's a fair point aerogi, but there's two things I don't understand with this...

1) Why would they try this ploy 1/4 way into the season? The true pace of the car was seen this past weekend and this is typically a strategy pre-season.
2) Where was this pace this past weekend?

Maybe they want to sell the team and therefore need to look "pretty".

According to Rosberg the stupid megaphone they stuck off the back of the car didn't work:
http://www.f1fanatic.co.uk/2014/05/14/n ... k-rosberg/

I still don't really see the volume as been too big of an issue. Yeah there quieter but that hasn't put me off, I've already gotten used to it (And the finger noses) & Im enjoying F1 just as much this year as I have in the past. I love how the new cars are moving around more & how the new power units are adding to that coming off the corners when all the torque kicks in.

See point 1...

so now with penis noses and these exhausts if you bump into the car in front of you there's the risk to making it pregnant. :tumble:

exactly the same for me, word by word

I rarely used the PC while watching F1 in the past because I didn't want to move my sight away from the tv screen, but recently I'm sort of watching the races in the "background" while doing lot's of other stuff in the PC

And the thing is, you better sort it out what you gonna do about it because this ain't changing any time soon, if ever at all.

I have exactly the same feeling. It's just different. 2012 is a perfect example of a season that has everything, bad races, good races, but the best thing is,there was racing, different winners and nothing could be known until last few raindrops in Brazil. 2010 was good, but the Redbull was just unbeatable in the last races. 2013 was a bit boring, but at least there was a look of f1 as the best, glourious open wheel category in the world. The look of the cars, the sound,it was there.
2014 is just,meh...
Lewis is a just a better, faster driver then Nico, and if he had finished in Australia he would be P1 so just mechanical failures can take the title from him. It's not a big margin, but it's enough to be in front of Nico every race.
