Maybe it's undercover FOM agents trying to get an uploader into real trouble for showing example.

Old thread bump:

I noticed that after a copyright blocked video, if it's the "content ID claim" type of block and you get "Account not in good standing" status here (http://www.youtube.com/account_features) - if you remove the video, the status goes back to "in good standing". I have done this at least twice.

I guess this might be intendend behaviour... in the end it is probably more beneficial for Youtube that accounts are not easily terminated :D

Not sure if it's covered in the thread but working for a local television station I got told how FOM and other companies get video with copyright infringements offline so fast.

FOM can just upload the entire tv broadcast (it doesn't have to be accesible for public), and Youtube will automatically match video files that contain a piece of the original video. No human interaction is necessary.

That's probably why video's that are made with a cellphone aren't detected, because there is too much difference from the original.

FOM was specifically mentioned?

This content matching is how it has been done for years already, but I don't know if it is really that effective with sports and how accurate the matching algorithms are when talking only small clips from the full broadcast etc. Actually with this way, the video never goes public in the first place, because it is "busted" already during the uploading process.

This is why you often see reversed (mirror image) videos, maybe not with F1/racing but with lots of other tv shows, which fools the matching algorithms. Also the same with music = matching the audio track to the original one.

Well, it wouldn't be hard at all(actually it would ridiculously easy) to include a loop in the algorithm to search for mirror versions.

The best way to wright an algorithms to "catch" a video is looking up for any frame in it which would have a big match with any of the frames in the copyrighted, and hiden, one. This way, not even including things such as watermarks would work.

Soundcloud is extremely (irritatingly) effective in this.

The way around this one is usually extending the song by 1-2 seconds. Just enough to make it longer, but not enough that anybody really notices.

They did not mention FOM, but this is a solution that is offered to all "large" copyright holders, so I am pretty sure FOM uses this to automate the removal of videos.

I just love how easy it is to grab videos off formula1.com since they changed the video section :p

Oh yeh right lol

Any video download extension for Google Chrome works, but then you have to join all chunks. A simple Video Converter you can grab from GiveAway sites and VitrualDub are your friends then :)

Finally it has caught up with me as I uploaded a lot of Le Mans videos back in 2009 and 2010 and I have received an email that I was one step away from losing my account so I deleted the relevant and some additional videos.

Now I on a good standing. Is that the best way to keep my account going? I got a lot of Le Mans and Birmingham Superprix videos (I have decided to delete all of my old F3000 race videos now)

What was the common thing between the videos and were they auto-recognized with the content matching system? Eurosport?

I think race broadcast videos earlier than 2000s are more safe (excluding F1).

But the videos I had to delete were from the 1991 and 1992 races.
