So should we assume that Porsche will keep the testing livery? I doubt it. Same for Audi but it would be great if they would keep he livery.

Are people forgetting that Hartley has ~two ELMS seasons under him and including two visits to LM?

To me it feels like Porsche wanted a young driver, that can be a driver for them for many years (hopefully for a long time in P1).

To me it feels like Red Bull never completely severed ties with Hartley and we'll see him with Jani and Webber. He's quick and he's shown that he's become more mature so I don't fault him in that sense, but man this is a Porsche that is challenging for the overall win at Le Mans. That's one of the top seats in all of motorsport as far as prestige goes.

Porsche will certainly go for a mainly white livery. I believe it will be similar to their works GT. That's why Audi will go for black I guess.

Never seen similar paint (often called "dazzle ship camo") on road car test mules in spyshots in car magazines etc? It has no other reason than to hide exact car shapes, and it's not really a racing livery in that sense, so definitely no. Besides, Audi also used a similar one (see earlier pics in this thread) during Sebring test and so has been using Corvette too. I wonder if it is really that effective on race cars and if real reason for using is more "wow" factor.

Lucky week for Ryan Briscoe; first the Ganassi ride, now he's been picked for Corvette to run with Magnussen and Garcia at Daytona and Sebring.

Well, what a week for sportscar fan. I'm happy with Porsche choices, but a bit sad for McNish's retirement, even if it's understable.

Di Montezemolo explained that the F1 budget cap, which is due to be introduced for 2015, could give Ferrari the capacity to undertake an LMP1 programme in the World Endurance Championship, which includes Le Mans.

2014 safety car rules:
Quote:
A slow zone procedure will be introduced to reduce the impact of the safety cars on the track. The principle is as follows: in case of an incident necessitating the intervention of the marshals, technical and medical services, only a section of the circuit will be neutralised. In this zone cars can neither overtake nor exceed 60 km/h: outside this zone the race can continue as normal. If necessary, this slow zone may be preceded by a short neutralisation period with the safety cars covering the whole circuit.

I think this was semi-announced a while back (the Code 60 emulation)? Remember posting about it IIRC.

Works well in the Creventic-series, and I believe Nurby uses it as well in the same way as they plan to do it here.

Hmm that takes a lot of magic if Le Mans away. They should have focused on making Safety Cars more fair instead of this.

General safety car randomness and endless barrier fixings = magic?

Randomness and having to suddenly deal with your rivals being on your tail again almost resetting the race was part of the challenge of Le Mans imo, along with the interesting strategy calls that SC period brings out.

24 hour race with the cars gradually getting further and further away from each other and not being able to use the SC period to save fuel/try and do less stops than your rivals/realise your rivals are going for less pitstops so blast around at 100% speed holding nothing in reserve to combat that was one of the best parts of Sportscar racing imo.

Hopefully after a couple of farces (which will happen as it would any new system coming in before they get it worked out properly, look at F1 and the Safety Car in the 70s ;) ) it'll prove unworkable and they'll just go back to actually improve the SC
periods and try to actually fucking pick up the leader instead of seemingly giving up on this idea because they couldn't be bothered working it all out a few years ago.

So many 24H races have been using this now, and I've seen nothing but positive experiences from it. The Nurburgring 24H doesn't lose much of its charm because they spend 2h fixing a barrier at Flugplatz in a 60km/h zone while it stays green everywhere else.

Good change.
