Isn't Red Bull sponsoring Loeb on his way to WTCC? maybe RB could put da Costa there to race citroens

Or he could join Loeb's McLaren-team in FIA GT, which seems something not far-fetched.

From being associated with a F1 seat, to a WTCC seat.

Good idea in theory and it has unofficially been attempted before in F3000 (and F3) but it tends to deliver short term benefits only.

This is the problem. You'd need to have done it almost from scratch, unless you get teams such as Carlin having tie-ups with McLaren so that Carlin can be seen as McLaren's feeder series. To an extent it could work but what would be in it for Carlin?

Some teams have GP2 and GP3 teams (I think ART, Arden, Carlin and Russian Time - from 2014) and obviously that's a bit of a stepping stone. It's a bit like football - you have the first team, the reserves and the U21s or whatever. It would be so logical for each F1 team to have a GP2 and GP3 team so that you could get a proper analysis of how good a certain driver is and in time it could reduce the need for pay drivers that current litter GP2.

Imagine if GP2 had this for 2014:
Red Bull - Da Costa, Sainz Jr
Ferrari - Marciello, Fuoco
McLaren - Magnussen, Vandoorne
Lotus - Sorensen, Muller
Mercedes - Bird, Juncadella
Sauber - Frijns, Sirotkin
Force India - Calado, ?
Williams - ?
STR - Visser, O'Keefe
Caterham - Rossi, Stevens
Marussia - ?

That would be pretty fantastic. If F1 sorted itself out (hurr) you could end up with such a situation in 10 years' time or whatever. But so long as F1 continues in its self-interest approach (which will be forever), this won't happen. And as long as this happens the junior categories will continue to be a mess with budgets spiralling out of control.

Like I said, it has been done before and while it was good for a couple of seasons, it fell flat on it's arse once F1 teams started pulling out their support of the teams because the drivers they placed in the teams had peaked or reached F1. Once the F1 teams pulled out that left the F3 and F3000 teams on their own, and most closed their doors.

Knowing that F1 cannot sort it's own house out, I cannot see how they would be able to build a ground up direct feeder series.

Oh I agree completely, but it's nice to be able to imagine a world where something could work, right? :p

According to Susie Wolff's instagram she is training full time at the moment and she has exciting news to announce very soon.

I can't see it being an F1 drive. That's a bit...insane.

I would hazard a guess at an FP1 outing in Abu Dhabi. Unless Pastor's sponsorship really is totally fucked. Even then, he'd be a better option.

Pastors sponsorship isn't *really* Pastors sponsorship though is it? He brought it, but it's a contract with Williams. So if Pastor is being a bell end (which he is), it'd be possible to get rid of him whilst keeping the sponsorship.

But FP1 seems more likely. I imagine the FIA will encourage this as well, as they had the women drivers program.

The FIA's best bet if they want a female driver is to help out Beitske Visser and hope that she continues her current trajectory to be good enough for some FP runs in STR in a 2015/16.

Yeah, but you can't plan that far in the future. They're running a women drivers program, and they're sitting with one as a reserve driver. The fact they hadn't pushed for this earlier is surprising really. I don't think she's good enough, but she's a woman and the FIA want to highlight this at the moment.

always thought that Susie could get a F1 seat by her surname, but I imagined it was by her née surname :p

Spoiler:
amazing coincidence that she had common surname with Paul Stoddart

I think Phil's talking about the fraud. Regardless of whether Pastor was involved in wrongdoing, the department for sport in Venezuela has stopped all sponsorship payments to motorsport drivers, which probably did for Viso last weekend.

It shouldn't be an issue for Pastor right now, because IIRC the PDVSA money comes through in one lump sum.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

Pastor should be safe for the rest of the season. 2014 could be another matter.

Wasn't Pastor one of the very few who has payments continued? I read in the region of $66m. Others have not.

I'd guess having that surname was probably more of a hindrance, being potentially associated with that dickhead. But anyway, her surname changed some 2 or more years ago.

My reading of the story was that all payments have been suspended.

yeah, interestingly he picked Katherine Legge for a test, the first woman in years to drive a F1 car at the time
