Is it really true that Webber will be penalised for this 'taxi drive'?

Are they f*cking serious?

No, he has been penalised for racking up 3 reprimands.

Interesting to note that Alonso is now only one reprimand away from the same penalty. Very lucky he wasn't penalised in Spain for receiving the flag from the marshal...

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

They did. He also got a reprimand. The only reason Webber has a 10 place drop is he has 3 reprimands.

Dangerous?

it's the outlap goddammit. Drivers shouldn't drive at max during that lap.

Drivers are going from left to right, are braking, sometimes even very hard when the finish flag is waved to salute their team, are waving to spectators, are driving in the dirt to pick up some weight etc etc and marshalls are usuallly also right next to the track to wave to the drivers.

An utterly stupid decision, but that's what you have in this overregulated sport I guess.

I thought it was cool to see two drivers that are friends helping eachother.

Dangerous dangerous... give me a break.

It was a reprimand, not exactly like he's been thrown out for the next two races.

Incidentally, he wasn't actually reprimanded for the taxi ride, he was reprimanded for ignoring the instructions of the marshals.

There's a difference between usual celebrations and running on track like that; remember that at the end of the GP2 race there was a collision.

ah ha fair enough then, I only saw all the coverage given to Webber so assumed they let Fred off.

ok, ignoring instructions of the marshalls is not good.

but still, having a reprimand for playing taxi after the race, for waving with a flag after the race, and risking another reprimand and get a 10 grid penalty is just silly. I assume 'doughnuts' would also result in a reprimand when done after the race?

And had Rosberg gone around turn seven a little faster, we'd be facing a different situation.

It's cool to see and the FIA would probably have let it go had they done the collection in a safer place.

I can see exactly why they gave Webber and Alonso a reprimand. Alonso suddenly stopped in the middle of the track and Webber ran out onto the road. If he had stopped by the side of the road off the track they might have been OK. But yes it looked a little hairy when Rosberg drove by.

AutoSport have a good analysis piece on it today which shows why the reprimand was justified:
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/110103

End of the day I think it was just unfortunate that it was his 3rd reprimand which results in the penalty. Had it only been his 1st or 2nd & therefore not ended up been a grid penalty I don't think we'd even be talking about it.

What did Webber do to get his previous reprimands?

[edit]Nevermind, already found the answer myself:

Webber's two previous infringements are for causing a collision with Nico Rosberg at the Bahrain Grand Prix, and for ignoring yellow flags during first free practice at the Canadian Grand Prix.[/edit]

Related to Webber's dangerous jaywalking. Does anyone else remember a grand prix from mid-90's when the spectators were released on the track as the top3 finishers crossed the line? The only problem was that the backmarkers were running just ahead of the winner, so once the backmarkers reached the finish line, the crowd was already walking on the track. I remember that Mika Salo lost 6th position with Tyrrell to Minardi due this, Luca Badoer didn't care to slow down as much for the "pedestrians" and gained about 20 seconds compared to Salo on last lap. I just can't remember what race it was, but I think it was somewhere in 1994 - 1996.

Anyone?

I remember it happening on the slow down lap at Silverstone in 1991, but then it also happened in 1992 almost immediately after Mansell crossed the finish line. 1992 was worse as some cars were still on their final lap.

I don't remember a race including Salo and Badoer. Salo drove from Tyrrell in 1995-1997, finishing 7th in Brazil and Canada in 1995, same in 1996 at Silverstone and Belgium. Badoer never scored a point in F1.

Luca Badoer didn't earn a single point in his career. Minardi only had 2 points paying finishes 1995-1999, which was Lamy 6th in Adelaide in 1995 and Gene 5th at the Nurburgring in 1999. I do not recognize this particular incident, even if you have the drivers mixed up.

Maybe it was "the golden pineapple" position that Badoer got and maybe another driver got the last point? Somehow I'm thinking of the 1996 season, because I have a vague memory of Black/White/Green Minardi and Blue/White Tyrrell-Yamaha. It was a huge deal in Finland, since Mika Salo lost 6th position and the point.

On another note, when it comes to "Pass of the year" I think Kimi's around the outside of Button will be right up there.
Annoyed that they didn't even replay it during the race broadcast, was it replayed on highlights or on-board?

ATM it's between Alonso around the outside of ? at Monza and Hamilton around the outside of Webber (first time ;) ) at Hungary for pass of the season.
I'm sure there's also good ones from earlier in the season but I can't remember that far back atm :p

I made reference to a couple of races where Salo finished 7th NVirkkula. Perhaps it was one of those? Although, I'm off the same opinion as cheeveer, I don't remember the incident you're talking about.

So Salo lost out to Morbidelli on the last lap?

I don't think anybody lost out as they deleted the last lap. I don't think Salo was ever higher than 7th either.
