Seen a video of the podium, looked like the two banners that were on the podium were remote controlled, one popped up at the start of the German anthem, then the other at the start of the Austrian anthem.

Imagine a terrorist placing a bomb there, and blowing it up .. Now that would make the headlines

Kinda weird that it was unnoticed for two weeks

Thats a great video. Makes it look like it was on TV. It never was. The video is on a Green Peace account, so it'll really only get seen by motorsport fans who get linked to it (who don't care), or Green Peace fans already...making it completely pointless. And calling it Shells biggest day of the year is kinda..bullshit.

They didn't mention the giant banner they put over a Shell logo in another part of the circuit. Probably because the fans ripped it down and it was never seen. But hey.

A fucking mad priest and disgruntled Mercedes Benz workers have made far bigger impacts and headlines than these activists could manage.

But the fact they even managed it needs to set alarm bells ringing. At least it was only this and not like user mentioned, a bomb.

why would anyone want to bomb an F1 event? Imagine on the grid... 22 best drivers in the world all gone.

Exactly Ellis!

They also didn't mention that they spent thousands on getting there and got so little publicity. This is a major international event and so few people noticed!

I don't know what you can do regarding security, because you don't want it to be like airport style security.

And another point. If they claim this is Shells biggest PR day of the year, the best they could muster up was a couple of BANNERS? REALLY? It's such a massive day that it required banners and T Shirts? That's School Sports Day level of activism.

If it wasn't for DC and Brundle pointing it out during grid walks (I assume DC did), then we literally wouldn't have ever notice it.

I didn't notice it until someone on Twitter mentioned it. And I was in the same building. Not exactly a great protest if that's the case.

They clearly busted their budget in getting into the track. They're either really cheap or wasted it all on other stuff, because no one spends €140 on a "big" protest.

Just saw my marketing professor posting a link to this protest on Twitter, calling it a "brilliant" action.

Well nobody's questioning the fact we use oil and need it at the moment.

The debate is whether we should go all the way to the Arctic / Amazon forest / shale gas... to dig out every last drop and burn it into the atmosphere, worsening the climate and pollution issues, or leave those, reduce consumption and start looking at alternatives right now to prepare for the after-oil. Which, like it or not, is coming, and we will live to see it.

That's pretty much irrelevant. They are protesting a company and the product that comes by certain methods. Yet these people most probably happily use this product in their daily lives and likely think they are fine in doing so because of a self-elevated status thanks to these protests they involve themselves with. However, they are nothing but hypocrites.

I completely disagree. His text reeks of bigotry. He says (or quotes someone saying) that F1 is a recreational activity blablabla and should not be used for political statements. Then where the hell is the difference between this Greenpeace protest and the sponsor logos on the cars and the drivers thanking their sponsors? At least one of them has noble motives and wants people to become aware of what these corporations really do behind their glossy marketing agendas. And of course the people that make you aware of them get ripped to shreds.

Ignorance is bliss...

Pure motives are worthless if they are put into action in stupid ways.

Quote:
According to Roger Bate, a libertarian critic of Greenpeace, the organization's campaign to shut down the last major DDT factory in the world located in Cochin, India, would make the eradication of malaria more difficult for poorer countries.

Quote:
Greenpeace gave Nintendo a score of 0.3 / 10 based on the fact that Greenpeace has almost no information on the company, which, by Greenpeace's grading system, automatically results in a zero for the affected categories.

Quote:
It was alleged that Greenpeace had no factual evidence, instead relying on unsubstantiated official company information for the report in order to garner publicity, as well as political and monetary support.

All that from one wee bit of Wikipedia. So yeah they might think they have good motives, but in reality they are no different to other corporations and organisations. They are driven by money and will lie, cheat and steal to get what they want. If you think they're somehow different because they call themselves Greenpeace, then well done - you fell for the bullshit.

And if you want to discuss bigitory, how about that awful video greenpeace posted, conveniently ignoring how much of a failure that protest actually was?
