is it just me or does anybody else think that those commentators on eurosport international are a little bit too "funny" for just having a fatality there?

Yeah, I've seen that video already on youtube. He just took too much curb and lost his rear, spinning into the wall. Such a brutal impact.

Makowiecki has overtaken Dumas for 2nd in GTE Pro.

Gap between these two is now 6 seconds as Fred closes in on the leading Aston of Mücke.

Edit: Makowiecki leads.
Edit 2: Dumas re-takes him. We've got a battle!

While I agree with your sentiment as I feel absolutely devastated by this myself, I understand them. The race goes on and if I were them I would try and keep doing what I would usually do as well.

Speed's crew are the same, it is quite uncomfortable. I thought I was being oversensitive.

I agree with Stan. The commentators have to get on with their normal job.

Same for Eurosport Italia. They said "The show must go on" and then kept talking like nothing happened, like Simonsen just retired from the race.

for sure it is very difficult for them: they are for sure a bit shocked too, but on the other hand they have to do their job.
so i understand your point, yes.
on the other hand: you can also do the commentary without giggling and laughing after every second sentence.
but maybe i'm overreacting, don't mean to be rude.

Quote:
A statement from Le Mans organiser the ACO read: "At 15h09 the #95 Aston Martin Vantage GTE, driven by Allan Simonsen of Denmark, exited the track at high-speed at the Tertre Rouge corner on his fourth lap of the race.

"The driver was immediately attended on the scene by the doctors from the Automobile Club de l'Ouest's Medical Service.

"In a serious condition, Allan Simonsen was transferred immediately to the circuit medical centre, where he died soon after.

The ACO will make no further statement until the exact reasons for the accident are determined.

I don't think anyone will disagree with that, it is the same for the teams and drivers as well. But that doesn't mean it is not an uncomfortable feeling.

I saw the accident live, and had just come back on to see how the race was going, and that Simonsen was ok. I can't believe it. It was a huge impact on the wrong side, but I just didn't expect to read anything like that. I can't really get into the race now.

RIP Allan. :(

Our commentators are doing solo reports (a crew of 4 people) and the one that was in a booth just said smth like "we've got bad news..." and continued the broadcast as usual. BTW he's way too emotional with those spins that are happening right now.

I'm pretty sure that all this will hit very hard tomorrow after the race, or Monday, for all the people who are currently driving/working for teams/officials/maybe even fans... Once everyone is out of their 'Le Mans-zone', it will hit hard.

We are not in that zone, so it indeed feels uncomfortable

Doesn't help that's it's SPEED's B-Team doing the commentary at this moment. Scott Pruett's nonsense comments just make me grind my teeth.
