Worryingly, the car got air under it and slightly got airborne.

That was some air he got. May just doesn't seem to be a good month for Daly in general so far.

Unfortunetely car lost whole right side and didn't spin which caused air to go under the car and nearly flipped it. But it seems Dallara did their job because it went back to normal position.

Yeah, I don't think that's a big worry. The flat edge did take air (especially with the other side wiped off) but the car as a whole stayed on the ground. It looks very similar to Bobby Rahal's accident at Japan back in the 1900s.

Reminds me a little of Wheldon's flip back in 2003? A little concerning, but at least it ended up back on its wheels. If it happens at full speed though... :-/

Wellll....

The speeds have increased this year haven't they?

The higher the speeds go the more likely it becomes for something like this to happen

Since Indycar won't want to go down the road of either ground effect or taking enough downforce off these machines to ensure that this doesn't happen any more, it'll keep happening too.

Conor Daly doesn't do crashes half-heartedly.

The huge underside of the DW12 makes this even more likely I suppose, but yeah, it's not like the car is flying high into the air, it's just sort of tipping back.

Sidepod undertrays are too large. But, this sort of crash isn't without precedent as was mentioned with Rahals Motegi crash in '98.

Conway's crash last year was just a shitty wreck, it was not aero that caused it to get up there.

Glad Conor's OK.

EDIT: Dan beat me by a bit.

Takeoff speed for a 975,000 pounds 747 is 170mph approx. these things are a fraction of the weight, flat bottomed and going 50-70mph faster, they are going to take off in those circumstances regardless of how much you to to keep them on the ground, try to glide a flat piece of paper across your desk and see what happens.

And maybe worst of all was Meira getting a neck fracture in 2009 (wreck @ 3:03):

A hit so hard you can actually detect human emotion in Scott Goodyear's voice during the first replay.

Speeds are jumping right up at the beginning of Fast Friday. Bourdais currently top at 226.292.

Single car runs now, of course.

I know Sky Sports aren't showing Indycar this season, but what about the 500? Don't tell me it's ESPN or streams? :(
