Perhaps this is the same mystery company that is funding Tony Gilham's BTCC team?

So we've got:

4 Germans (VET, ROS, HUL, SUT)
4 Frenchmen (GRO, PIC, VER, BIA)
4 Brits (HAM, BUT, DIR, CHI)
2 Finns (RAI, BOT)
2 Mexicans (PER, GUT)
2 Australians (WEB, RIC)
1 Spaniard (ALO)
1 Venezuelan (MAL)
1 Dutch (VDG)
1 Brazilian (MAS)

Very different from 2011 as we had 3 Brazilians, no French and way more German. But still interesting :)

Marussia vs. Caterham should be especially interesting now ... Pic was a good driver against (admitedly motivation-devoid) Glock and Binachi's got promise. Don't know enough about either Chilton or VDG really. Marussia's car isn't a world beater but it could easily be a Caterham beater at this rate - the Caterham is basically last year's car with some minor changes - and was today on the times ...

I reckon it'll be Pic and Bianchi, with Van der Garde and Chilton regularly three tenths - if not more - down.

Having tested the previous three Ferrari and two Force India's, Bianchi's in for a shock tomorrow

Eager to see how Jules fares, but I feel desperately sorry for Razia. No-one deserves that.

Nothing like a proper pay-driving team on the grid again! I wonder how Bianchi's somewhat reckless style in recent years will fit with F1. Chilton might be slower on paper but much more reliable in bringing the car home IMO.

Bianchi seems to have a crash-happy reputation. He was in 2010 and the start of 2011, but since mid-2011 I don't recall him being involved in an unusually high amount of crashes.

Yeah because you always get remembered by bringing the car home in a solid and steady 20th place.

Presumably it's 20th because the two Mercedes will break down every weekend.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

Who said anything about getting remembered? 8O But if there's one race full of attrition that decides 10th place in the constructors standings I expect Chilton to survive the mess, not Bianchi.

Classy Tweet from Timo Glock to Jules Bianchi ... "@Jules_Bianchi congrats for the drive! Enjoy your time! Got some good guys to work with!"

Same for Razia.

Quote:
"I understand the position of Marussia and I like the team. They treated me very nicely there and, to be honest, they were trying to sort out the situation for me. They chose me because they wanted me there in the first place, so there are no hard feelings.

"It is also fair to say that Bianchi had a difficult situation and, to be honest, he deserved the drive."

I think Marussia's honesty towards both drivers who have been booted out has counted for a lot.

Oh I know you didn't say anything about being remembered and I get your point about attrition  But I still have my doubts about Chilton's ability even in high attrition races.

Lewis has done a 1.20.5 this morning. I know the 2013 cars are largely upgraded 2012 models, but even so that is a very quick time. His 2012 pole in the (underweight) McLaren was a 1.21.7.

He definitely had his Weetabix this morning ... (Breakfast cereal consumed by F1 drivers may vary. Terms and conditions apply.)

Especially impressive as the track will be pretty green, really, from the recent rain - and whilst cooler temperatures help the engine a bit, it's probably not to the tune of a second, and the tyres probably prefer a little bit more heat than the track temperatures in Barcelona at present.

Fortunately my duties with Autosport extended only to standing around in the cold reporting tyre compounds, not the movements of Lewis' motorhome early in the morning ...

Just be thankful you weren't required to report on Lewis' movements inside his motorhome this morning ;)
