It's not really news seeing as the DVD was out over a month ago.

i think the fact people thought there was a different reason for him to eat food other than that he wanted is the ridiculous part about it.

I think the ridiculous part is that people are still talking about it 4 years after it happened.

"What else was I supposed to do, I asked the team to race and they said no come into the pits so there was literally nothing else to do but pit"

Yeah, slow news day

A lot of people Westernise their names ... I'm not sure I particularly like this. I've had Spanish students tell me their name is Charles ... which it is in translation, but their actual name is Carlos, and I can, and should, call them by that. I'll stop before raising any fascinating etymological discussion ...

Then again, people also invent names because they want to ... Jacky 'Ickx' for example, which sort of came about by accident, he was originally like Malcolm X, only Belgian, and with less political motivations.

I'm sure I've seen both MN and Autosport refer to him as a Brit. Maybe he has a Thai father or something and they think it'll help with sponsors.

Good to see Lotus isn't only looking in Europe for talent.

Looked him up on google, apparently he was a Red Bull junior. Is he kicked out of that?

Maybe the critera to get Thai racing licence are rather benificial? I know it's rather easy to get your racing licence in Austria without much hassle, for example (no real tests etc.) I have seen a couple of Zimbabwean Belgians driving around in our national classes too, lmao.

Years ago when I used to read such things, I read that before Jacky Ickx's first race he went to sign on, but decided he didn't particularly like his surname of Bernard, it was quite bland and common, so he placed an X, which people began to pronounce in French as 'Ickx' ...

So he's 50-50, lives in one, races under the other.

What his facebook page says.

Quote:
This is the official page of Alex Albon. Red bull junior driver in Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup & ALPS. Vice World CIK FIA KF1 Champion. Former European, World Cup and British KF3 Champion. Half British and half Thai.

Maybe he is using the Thai nationality to get in favour of Red Bull (50,1 Thai)?

Makes sense, because every Thai person is required to have a massive surname. :p

Yes, they're history.

I was thinking about recent events, especially 'pay drivers'. Rather than being critical, we should look at why they're becoming prominent.

Jaime Alguersuari's said he won't be in F1 this year, indicates that he had a race seat for 2013 but lost it to someone who brought more cash:
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/105588

Quote:
"I never imagined that after Red Bull's incomprehensible decision not to count on me in 2012, having done my best sporting season in F1 [in 2011], I would have to fight so much outside the track before finally assuming that in 2013 I will not be in F1," he said.

"I assure everyone that I have been convinced for most of the 2012 F1 season that my seat was secured in a team that usually scores.

"So they did tell me and I believed it to be true.

"Due to this conviction I passed up other opportunities in other championships.

"Those who committed themselves with me have given me reasons that I must accept but that I do not share.

"F1 has become an auction."

I still think he would have had a much stronger season in 2012 had STR retained him. I also think he raises a problem with the way Red Bull deal with there young drivers, If your not the next Vettel & they no longer want you, They just throw them out in the cold & you often see Ex-Red Bull young drivers unable to race for 1-2yrs as they have zero backing aside from Red Bull.
