I couldn't care less where Buxton ends up. Especially after the crap he pulled last week.

I like him as a commentator, but not as much as a journalist.

after today I'm not sure anymore of my opinion that Hamilton made the wrong decision in moving to Mercedes.

The decline of McLaren is becoming obvious now and I think they will be reduced to midfielders by 2013.

McLaren doesn't even put Lewis in the Tooned anymore http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GQSk8_Kxz24
Then Hamilton offered them to go bowling Saturday evening, but they went walking with Jenson.
Doesn't look like a nice goodbye for Lewis :(

Ted says it's possible that Sauber could drop Kobayashi and give Gutierrez a four race run out. I'd be surprised if that happened.

If you funded someone's racing career for as long as McLaren did, only to see that loyalty repaid by the boy fliping on a whim for $$$$$$, I think you'd be pretty pissed off and wouldn't really go out of your way to make his remaining time in your employment an enjoyable experience either.

Lewis was offered less money than Jenson. That's pretty insulting given the performances this year. He's on the same money at Mercedes. It also means he doesn't have to work with that lying dirt bag Whitmarsh. Given McLaren spent half a year making a fuck up of every pit stop Lewis did, and the other half having the car break down, I'd say Lewis is well within his right to go elsewhere.

McLaren also ended up offering more money than Mercedes in the end, so it certainly wasn't about money.

McLaren have made their bed, and they can lay in it. I look forward to many 8th and 9th place finishes from them next year.

Yes I knew you were going to say that (both of you )
To me it's still a loyalty issue, if Lewis was loyal to McLaren he could have got rid of Whitmarsh if he really wanted, but he's decided to goto Merc instead. I can kind if understand/see his point on the money issue (being offered less than JB) but there's more than one way to skin a cat - he was obviously not happy with McLaren, but for anybody to be surprised that "they" (McLaren) are treating him like shit is being a bit wet behind the ears, I can pretty much guarantee that there are sections of the factory he won't be allowed in anymore too. "Unhappy" split is an understatement.

Were Jenson and Lewis negotiating their contracts at the same time? or was Jenson's last year.... can't remember...

P.S. I think it's more likely Lewis will be picking up the 8th & 9th places next year than McLaren.

I wonder how much of the Lewis/McLaren relationship broke down in 2011? Maybe he felt that they didn't offer him as much encouragement or something.

Either way, the relationship is completely broken now. Remember those fun videos they released in 2010? Seems a long time ago!

I fully expect Lewis to be outside the top 10, so any improvement on that will be a bonus.

They've apparently designed next year's car around Lewis, so Jenson is going to spend the first half of the season struggling with balance and Perez will get found out when he can't run the alternate strategy from outside the top 10 every other race.

True, but I'd imagine Merc themselves have designed their car around Nico (being the only driver confirmed at the design stage), so it works both ways, Lewis is going to have to adapt to a car designed for Jenson's brother from another Mother.

I think that's the issue. Button and Perez can both pull off the alternate strategy, but on pure pace they're usually lacking that final tenth. Perez is very talented, but the line-up doesn't quite excite me that much.

They may have missed a trick by not hiring the Hulk.

If you look at McLaren's season on Button's pace, you'd see a car that was apparently nowhere between Bahrain and Germany, whereas it was only Silverstone where the car was clearly awful.

Of course.

But I think Lewis is better at adapting than Jenson is.
