Button did not push him off track because Vettel made no effort to stay on track, I don't think he had any intention of using the circuit, he just nailed the throttle and drove where there was tarmac ... as Mattzel's said, if you pave everything, this shit happens - it's similar to Kimi at Spa but he got away with that as he was forced there off the start - before nailing the KERS and profiting from it ...

I disagree, Vettel could have easily gone off the throttle and he would have made that corner.

If they penalise Vettel. Stewards better do it at midnight after the fans have gone home. I don't see anything wrong myself. Massa did worse in 2010 and nothing happened.

Indeed. There wasn't even half a cars width left by Jenson. Those who watched the sky build up would have seen the FIA clarification of not running to the edge of the track when cars are alongside.

Vettel was aiming for the runoff before Jenson moved over to take the line, not in a million years did Jenson force him wide.

It doesn't really matter what someone did in 2010, 1990 or 1950, it's the rules now that matter.

I don't see the problem with Vettel's pass. We've seen multiple passes like that in the past and not one mention of penalty. Why should now be any different?

I love how people post screenshots that disprove their point.

Vettel had to go there, otherwise there would have been contact.

that's a clear penalty, I mean, he drove wide, which means he can take the turn much faster.

@FIA: if you desperately want to have tarmac areas, have about 10 meters of grass or so in between.

I agree that in principle it was a clean pass. He didn't cut the track, and it was totally safe.

But the issue is that the rules technically don't allow it. If they didn't know about the rule I don't think McLaren would really care all that much, but I understand them asking the question. Might as well raise the issue.

Because in those cases, cars were side by side when they left the corner and the car on the outside had to avoid contact. This time Vettel simply took a wider line even before exiting the corner and simply drove around Button, he didn't take evasive action.

That's my view.

he should have backed down and stayed behind button, he only was able to pass him BECAUSE he drove wide!

Sometimes life can be simple!
