The small tower in Turn 3 made for a nice vantage point. I spent time up there Saturday and Sunday with some track staff / safety workers. During the CRA race they'd hang out up there, until a crash happened, then they'd all run down, jump in a pickup truck and go clean up whatever mess there was.

I'm looking at the timing and scoring from ARCA practice at New Jersey Motorsports Park. Andrew Ranger is the fastest and he's over 28 seconds faster than the slowest car. Chase Elliott is mid-pack right now.

Qualifying from New Jersey Motorsports Park has just started. Cars will go out in five groups of six cars with a small remaining group, with 10 minutes per group to record lap times.

Andrew Ranger seems to be by far the dominant car in qualifying and race trim.

Chad Hackenbracht won his first ARCA Pole ahead of Andrew Ranger and Tom Hessert III. Steve Fox was the slowest car to take time and he was over 20 seconds slower than Hackenbracht.

Don't know if the time gap will be a huge deal at a road course, there's only 33 cars out there and a few of those will only run a couple laps. From what I've heard, ARCA is being a bit lenient when it comes to minimum speeds, as long as a driver can stay out of the way of faster cars, they'll let him stay out. Don't know how true that is, but it's possible, since the fields are small enough.

Race has begun at 1:00 ET.

32 cars started, with 21 cars on the lead lap so far. Andrew Ranger has been dominating, as somewhat expected.

Didn't finish the race, but went back out in the 66 to help them out

On ARCA's site the reason for Hackenbracht's DNF was a Power Steering Leak.

Appearently Andrew Ranger passed Chase Elliott coming out of turn 1 on the final lap. Makes me wonder what happened to Elliott to lose 4.4 seconds in one lap. Ranger won this race last year on a last lap pass as well.

According to ARCA's online radio streaming to the race, Chase Elliott overdrove and ran off course entering or exiting turn one on the last lap after facing pressure from Ranger the last few laps. That allowed Ranger to take the lead and win the race.

Also of note, Mika Duno returns after missing a few races due to lack of sponsorship and finishes 10th on the lead lap.

Wonder what happened here?
Quote:
(TOLEDO, Ohio - July 25, 2012) - ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards officials have announced a penalty from last week's event at Chicagoland Speedway.

As a result of an incident in the ARCA Racing Series garage area involving unsportsmanlike conduct after qualifying, Venturini Motorsports' Billy Venturini has been penalized. Venturini has been suspended for one race, fined $1,000, and placed on disciplinary probation for the remainder of the 2012 season. The penalty was issued for violation of 2012 ARCA Rule Book Section 3, Page 6, #3 and #10, which reference conduct by team members toward ARCA officials and conduct or actions detrimental to the sport of auto racing.

I remember someone saying something about it at Lucas Oil Raceway this past weekend. I did see Billy at the track, though.
