Impossible.

Never do we seem to have a camera pointed the right direction.

Only chance is CCTV, no fans around there. So we're basically never going to see it

There are two impact points in that barrier

Judging by the tyre marks, looks like he went sideways, hit the closer barrier with the front and then second impact with the rear

This track is like a rally stage in that its near impossible to actually capture anything

It's why I never took to WEC or whatever as a kid, when it was just highlights on TV it was basically the commentator being a narrator telling you a story of what happened in the race set to some pretty pictures, any actual race defining incident, be it crash, overtake, engine failure or whatever, was just explained to us

Things aren't that bad now, but it's still the hardest track in motorsport to actually cover live. Other tracks would have 3x cameras per region, Le mans probably has the same number of cameras stretched out over its distance, no coverage looking back at the corner for incidents if the main camera is told to follow the leader, etc

Basically, hope cars crash in the porsche curves or from the final corner to turn 1, it MIGHT be caught then

If (when) hypolerpole needs to be delayed then the good thing is that the last FP was only set to last 1 hour instead of 2, so there should be 1 hour of leeway.

Are the barriers around Le Mans inferior or something? Why do they always seem to take so much damage when other circuits with armco style barriers don't seem to fold up like aluminum foil?

I used to think that, but now I think it's more that cars don't tend to hit unprotected armco very often at most tracks, and definitely not at the speeds they're doing round here. When they do you get similar results, eg. Grosjean at Bahrain

In some years soft soil has been brought up as one reason but not sure if there's any truth in it.

Nords is another with a lot of unprotected armco and you see a lot of barrier repair during races there.

Putting anything other than Armco isn't really worth it on the straights either.

Little offtopic:
Speaking of Le Mans Cup, and unseen crashes, I would like to reminder wreck from Barcelona 2019 practice:

Quote:
Lanan Racing’s Mike Benham is currently in a Barcelona hospital under observation after a huge accident yesterday in the championship-leading #25 Lanan Racing Norma M30 in FP1 for the Michelin Le Mans Cup.
As for the accident, reports from the paddock suggest a huge impact from an unsighted Benham with a stationary LMP3 car. The #25 ended up over the top of the other car, impacting heavily nose-first and launching the Norma into a series of barrel rolls. The remains of the car, (the front end, forward of the tub was separated), ended up upside down on the top of a set of tyre barriers.

I don't know if it's an official stream or what, but here's Hyperpole live stream on Youtube with Japanese commentary

Do we have a time frame on the Hyper Pole delay? I have the stream on mute as I'm in the office.

Someone in a stream chat I'm in has said 12 minutes. Seems realistic. There's a course car heading back towards the pits atm.

EDIT: Although the footage of the lorries at the barrier might suggest otherwise.

Sounds like we're on in 10 minutes. Radio message said starting at 20:30 local time.
