more like increasing temperatures on tire blankets for safety and even that will be useless

If there's any TBK'ers in Melbourne, a few of my friends who have a podcast will get together and watch the race at a pub in Richmond. All are welcome to tag along.

You guys have enough material to talk through this potential farce?

We'll have enough alcohol to talk our way through anything.

So dumb... A theoretical marquee race and no one in the home country can watch it live.

Why don't they run it at sunrise? Now it's just another night race. Race should start 6 am local time, that's 15 cet like any other european race. Sunrise is at 6:21, by the time it finishes it will be day. And I think for most of the us that start time would be more practical than what they have now.

things like that make sense, but if eveyrthing follows the script it'll be a blatant failure but Liberty will claim it was a success anyway

They're running a super-late night race in Vegas in November (the average low on the Vegas race date is 8C). Small wonder that they give zero flips about the US market timing... it seems like the planners didn't even bother asking Vegas locals (or even Googling) about what the weather should be like for their event, apparently. :p

Running the race at, say, noon PST would actually make the most sense to me, I would think (that would make it an evening race for Europe, afternoon for the east US, and 16-18C temperatures likely) but I am guessing that there's some issues with locking up the Strip during "prime time", so to speak.

Based on what I’ve read, the race wasn’t even budgeted properly, let alone organised with any foresight, this race will be done probably before the 3 year contract is up, the locals are not the target audience anyway, and by all accounts are already done with this mess, they’ve started tearing down the measures Liberty has put in to stop them viewing the race without paying.

If you have time, and are interested, it may be worth trawling through Atlas' thread on the race; https://forums.autosport.com/topic/2209 ... es-gp-2023.

In particular, the posts by 'loki' are very illuminating as he is a local.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

Interesting to hear a positive take on the event from a local and the factors that actually work in its favour when you wouldn't think they would. I guess 1am isn't late there like it is in most cities.

I was just looking at hotel rooms for Thu-Sun accommodation and you can stay at many places for the same rates as a normal weekend :8:

Downtown is the place to be - just stay there and walk down to the race, it's "only" 4 miles.

I hope it's not what I fear, but this is either a one and done or two and done event.

If they do come back next year, the race will start much earlier.

Yeah I saw a tiktok stating that hotel prices dropped massively and are still available for booking. Also restaurants still have plenty of room.

I'd be surprised if this one lasted more than 1 race.

This is, in a word... A mess. That thread over on Atlas, or Autosport, or whatever is a treasure trove that really showcases the issues of this endeavor.

This is a really good idea! Only a handful of circuit races (the 24 hours) ever get a sunrise stint. Would be an opportunity for F1.

Then again we're neither a local spectator who gets to wake up and get to the track in the cold morning, nor a local non-spectator who gets woken up at 6AM on a Sunday

if that fails this might be Liberty's last dance with F1 (fingers crossed)

Currently it looks like it will be +12°C around midnight. So not too exceptional conditions. What is unexpected is considerable risk of rain during the event. Nevada is the last place you would imagine wet tyres being required. :tumble:
