I see a incomming retirement after 1 year.

Not unless Alonso decides to stage a coup against Stroll and become team owner :whistling:

Man that would be toxic drama!
At least something to look forward to.

Netflix already requested to be present in the AM team the entire season

Well that was news I wasn't expecting. Has Alonso done a Ricciardo from Red Bull to Renault and blind sided the team? I see the same result either way. Or has Alpine shown a greater amount of balls than I thought and taken Piastri over him? I was sure he was a lock.

I can't see how Alonso and Aston are going to work. You really think Alonso will bow down and suck daddy Stroll's dick publicly when Lance gets made to look even worse than he is now?

a hostile takeover. I like it

Alonso already had a history of blackmailing and threats (alongside with the bridge burning habit). Let's see if he can top his game against a billionaire like Strulovich

The current theory seems to be that Fernando wanted a 2-year deal but Alpine would offer 1+option. With Piastri waiting, they could get rid of him and AM offered 2 years+option.

So Vettel retires, and is followed by Alonso, who probably retires by 2025. Does that mean Lewis will follow Alonso to Aston? And then Verstappen joins in 2028 after winning 7 consecutive championships.

And Lance will still be there "developing" as a driver.

A very odd choice given Aston's current form, but I guess that confirms Piastri at Alpine and maybe then Sargeant to Williams?

Sargeant is still far too green. It'll probably be de Vries replacing Latifi.

Maybe Alonso is hanging around there, hoping it'll become Audi in time for one last hurrah

There are now whispers that piastri could go to McLaren replacing ricciardo.

That would be something. Alpine left with Ocon and maybe ricciardo

This isn't the Alonso of old. His priorities have changed. He's no longer chasing after championships/wins. I basically see this as being his retirement tour. Stroll gets the big name he craves for PR/marketing purposes. And Alonso will have that seat for as long as he wants, until he's ready to retire.

Autohebdo reports that both Herta and Piastri have signed agreements in principle to replace Ricciardo next year.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

Yes, as a final contract this is probably a smart move. He probably gets to dictate terms, get the car to his liking under the guise of 'mentoring' Lance, and then when he's done he probably gets the same comfy pension that Porsche gave Mark Webber.

I heard something about Mark Webber involved in getting Piastri into McLaren to replace Ricciardo.

Silly season just came out of nowhere!

Umm, you're aware than Stroll not only owns Aston Martin F1, but Aston Martin itself? As many have said it's only going to end bad.

Reminder - Alonso is 41 years old, has one Formula 1 podium in the last 8 years and hasn't won a race in more than 9 years. He's robbing an up and comer out of a seat just to fill his pension up.

Now this is weird, considering how badly the relationship with Ricciardo and Renault went down.

I've heard something similar too - Piastri has signed a pre-commitment to McLaren but Alpine are trying to get him out of it.

What I imagine gets pipped over the loud speakers at McLaren and Alpine when discussing drivers......

Spoiler:

Also applicable on the Ferrari pit wall.

At this point is there any series that doesn't have a driver with an agreement in principle to drive for Mclaren next year? I hear Jamie Chadwick, Ty Gibbs and Esapekka Lappi are all filling out the tear-off form outside Mclaren HQ. Zak probably has contract forms printed on the back of his business card at this point.
