I have a feeling Bottas will have same luck with reliability as Kimi in McLaren in 2002, when he retired 11 times during the season.

This, but without coming very close to a win?

Or wait, the supreme irony: leading in front of Hamilton, slipping and handing him the win and a historic title (just like Kimi did for Schumacher in 2002).

I get the eerie suspicion we're about to enter into yet another era of dominance.....

Only because another team is doing the dominating now, it's "everyone else's fault, they should work hard to catch up" and "it's good for the sport to see a new team win by 10 seconds or more"

We'll see tomorrow.....

Ferrari and RBR seem to be fairly close so might be an interesting season between them

Seeing Russel in front of Hamilton and Mercedes struggling makes up for a lot.

Cool how they've stuck with the in-helmet cameras. I've counted three drivers with them today.

The new graphics aren't bad either.

The floor skidding over the floor could become an annoying thing on onboard views

Eduardo Freitas seems to be in Sebring so it's going to be Wittich at the helm for this race.

Yeah, what a bummer it won't be Lewis and Toto

You can't really criticise a potential year of dominance when you've spent 7 years celebrating dominance that your guy just happened to be on top of.

That's the thing about this 7 years of dominance people like to bring up for some reason

2014-2016=3 years of title fights (even though they were between team mates, you can't deny the Nico vs rosberg thing was intense and the fighting all the way down the field in those low downforce years was intense. Like it wasn't just Nico Vs Lewis that made Abu Dhabi 2014 that exciting, every other position was fought hard for too)

2017-2018: 2 years of Ferrari Vs Mercedes. Yeah, the ferrari fight usually capitulated in the final few races of the season, but there was 3/4 of those seasons where the title fight was just as intense of last season, with moments such as Vettel ramming Lewis in Baku being just as contraversial as some of the incidents we just saw in 2021 (with perhaps not quite as much toxicity on social media afterwards)
Ferrari at points in those seasons looked like the better package too, if they'd have kept their shit together in the final run to the championship, they would've at least gone to the final race instead of falling apart like they did

So only really 2019 and 2020 were complete Mercedes walkovers, and 2020 was a batshit insane season in pretty much every way but the title fight.

If Red Bull or Ferrari get a sniff of a dominant car, you're not getting 2014-2016 again. You're getting 2002 or 2004 with one driver being nominated number 1 and the other having to be support.
That's the difference.

Ok, so 7 consecutive years of Merc dominance is actually the good kind, and we should be fearful of a return to the "bad kind" where the only real difference is another team is doing the dominating. Rather than looking at all the positive signs that suggest maybe more than 2 teams will be in this fight.

I dunno, that's a pretty pessimistic outlook before the first race has even been run on the biggest rules package change in a decade. I can't imagine you'd be this down were the car at the top of the sheets silver with a 44 stamped on it.

a big chunk of Mercedes domination years saw them equalizing Ferrari on the matters of the FIA connivance and unwillingness to change the rules to make their lives difficult and of course, team orders making everybody look like idiots watching

but again, I don't put Mercedes domination over yet, they're very fishy and can still pull out something for qualifying or take advantage of a SC which will make me curse them while watching the race... again

Well it is going to take quite a bit of sorting out for the Merc to be a title challenger. It still looks pretty terrible. I have no doubt it is a fast car, but they don't want to be giving away too many early season points.

Max looks like he will steam roll the competition. With Ferrari doing the classic Ferrari thing of being there, or there abouts and then just falling into a heap leaving us fans just rather deflated.

Feel it is just going tot be a case of "meet the new boss, same as the old boss".

Red Bull does look really good though, if only in Max's hands.
