Did they think they needed the space for advertising?

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

Is it just me or are these semi-raised noses looking a bit... odd?

Getting some vague CART vibes too with those sort of liveries and noses. The simpler bodywork helps. Or maybe it's the vaguely "Valvoline" logo :p

Such a gorgeous thing

I was getting CART vibes with that front end too, especially if you visually imagine the car minus the HALO.

It's going to be hard telling apart the Williams from the Alpine in long distance shots on TV unless Alpine go with a different color scheme this year.

Reading today that they initially thought the new cars would be 3-4 seconds slower than the 2021 cars, but now they're saying they'll only be 0.5 seconds slower.

They'll be faster lol, always happens

Then the FIA will save face by saying "Yeah but, imagine how much faster they would've been if we HADN'T changed the rules!"

Besides, the main point of the rules was to boost overtaking, so if we end up with the same speed cars that can race a lot better, that's a win for me, and no-one can bitch about how slow the cars are either like they do with Formula E/Indycar/A1GP/Superleague formula back in the day that delivered 1000% more entertainment for only 80% of the laptime

i read somewheres that it was time to retire it partially because every time drivers get in the car they see it and are reminded of what happened to senna (not sure if that means they're secretly acknowledging guilt, lol)

IIRC, Alpine will have BTW sponsorship. So we can expect it to have some pink in the livery. And perhaps some yellow from Binance as well.

weird that in this Williams team (that started in 1978), Senna was the only fatality at the wheel

Isn't generally the faster a series, the less "racey" it becomes? We witness this across the board, from single seaters to saloon/GT. You will see Miatas in groups of 10 cars going side-by-side for half a lap, when the same thing will rarely happen between prototypes for example.

I have no science to back this up though so I would be glad if it's proven wrong. Come to think of it, probably has to do with dirty air and aero-dependence in the first place, aero cars being usually faster, and difficult to follow.

just pick touring car series that went seriously insane with their development like DTM. Back when it was homologation specials the cars provided good old tin top racing. In the latter years they had to resort to DRS to allow overtaking

Another new sponsor for Red Bull in the form of Ponzi scheme crypto trading platform Bybit.

https://www.autosport.com/f1/news/red-b ... l/8220971/

Combined with the Oracle deal, it means that Mateschitz does not have to put any Red Bull money into running the team for the next 3 years.
