I never saw that race live, but if I was 34 back then I would think that's mad.

Yeah, I was 31 when I was in grandstands to witness how little rain causes red flag. It's closer to "I don't need umbrella for this" than "crap, I better run to avoid getting wet" and not even close to "I should put my wipers on full blast"

It wasn't mad at all. Suzuka 1994 started in similar bad conditions too before they put the red flag out. Brundle had a big off in that one which he mentioned earlier today.

Brundle broke a marshall's leg, but back then everyone seems to think it was OK to have people on track in zero visibility, wet track, and drivers who can't fucking slow down enough to keep it on track in a yellow zone.

Driving standards have been lowered since then anyway. That's a by-product of the video game astroturf racing with the modern drivers thinking they have 9 lives on track each and every time. Not even gonna mention reliability, all these Ricciardos and Norrises wouldn't be smiling if they knew the car will break down in 10 of 16 races like it was before.

I don't really get why they don't suspend the race and try tomorow. It's not that teams are all going home after this event if home is far aways. Zandvoort is just around the corner (almost lol).
But then again, Spa weather tomorow looks like it will be the same as today so... We're screwed.

So what you're saying is that back in the day, racing drivers did not laugh because they were always weary that their car might not last the race?

back in the day they didn't smiled because they needed more focus than anything. Their cars didn't had all the electronics and it was way harder to manage fuel and tires

In 2021 drivers sound like they have the worst luck in the world if they have like ONE mechanical DNF in 15 races. Since Vitantonio Liuzzi had like 8 straight DNFs in 2007 IIRC I don't remember anyone having more than four in a row - even the McLaren-Honda "GP2" engine combo.

I’m surprised so many fans are still there. At this point you know there wont be much racing. You’re soaking wet and it’s at least a 3h drive for many of the Dutch fans

Imagine missing this race because you have things to do, and you check tbk and notice the thread has 33 pages...

That is if you can leave the parking areas around the track. There's gonna be so much mud.

Yeah but I’d rather deal with that before the rest is leaving too. Now you might still have a decent chance
