Great circuit. I remember the sevond cormer wjere F3000 had an accident where a driver "AYARI" mounted on the car of driver "MAZZACANE". The nature of the boxy circuit favours tight packed racing and crashes, hope

Also, those maestous mountains

What is this new series starting up? I've never heard of it before.

Hopefully its a good one. This track has usually put on a decent show. Short, simple and no complex corner combinations.

Yeah F1 needs to go to more short circuits. Another Tilke obsession I don't understand is how long all of his tracks are

I think it's something to do with sponsors but I could be wrong

How many years before we break under the 1 minute barrier...

I'm curious how much difference in speed we will have in the second race weekend. This is the first race, most teams don't know what they are capable of, but for the next race they will have had the time to develop the car.

Is this it? Are we goin' racin' this week-end?
A few months ago we were afraid we would not see this season at all. Let's enjoy every single lap of every single race while it lasts! :)

Haha man, you're bringing me way back, with Soheil Ayari's antics and all sorts of shenanigans. That would've been the 1998 F3000 season, the year Montoya and Heidfeld were battling for the championship. There are still detailed reviews of every race available on Youtube, a very entertaining watch for rainy raceless days.

I remember a long time ago (a decade perhaps) when the talks to bring Paul Ricard back to F1 began, the possibility of a race without fans was discussed and it generated quite a debate on the matter.

Now we are about to see what it feels like.

Paul Ricard from 1986-1990 was racing on a very short layout, best laps at the time were around 68 seconds on a 3,8km course.

the thing with long tracks is that the longer the track is, less laps are run, so the race runs quicker that shorter tracks, considering they have a high average speed like Monza or old Hockenheim

Apart from Pau, sadly, which appears to have disappeared of late :(

They should go back to Dijon. If Lauda was doing 58 seconds in 1974, they'd be going for a sub 30 second lap now.

Just do Norisring. Lando would like that too.

In this new, strange era of F1, it's time for some brand new, strange traditions

To that end I must say

Congratulations Max Verstappen, winner of the (dry) 2020 Austrian Grand Prix and 2020 World Drivers Championship

you know that tilke's clients decide how long their track should have to be?

My problem is not that the tracks are necessarily too long, it's that they all have to have at least 25 turns.

Yeah true, I guess it's too easy to use Tilke as a byword for modern circuit design these days. Replace "Tilke obsession" with "modern circuit obsession" and my thoughts are the same

More or less imposed by FIA's grade 1 guidelines.
