The old Hockenheim was a joke track. Just a bunch of straights through a pine forest that claimed Jim Clark's life in 1968. It only got the race after the Nurburgring became unsuitable and there were no other tracks.

Name a good race in the 80's or 90's from there. I'm struggling to find anything.

The new one has many good races in its history but people seem to loathe it still. Its been almost 20 years now. Move on.

97 was a great race. Cheering for that young boy Fisi in the beautiful Snake Jordan, drama in the end, Berger winning after his massive blow up in the last laps the year before, and after missing three races because of the death of his father.
99 had its moments.
2000 was great to see with Barrichello winning his first.

But, like everyone says: even if the races were sometimes boring, it was still a unique track. And name one track that has had no boring races.

like many tracks from the pre wwII era hockenheim was built for cars going fast. unlike todays tracks which are built to be safe and provide "entertainment" for tv viewers. doesn't make sense too compare classic and modern tracks.

I'd also add 1981. Fantastic battle between Jones and Prost. Also 1990, as Nannini almost fended off Senna.

(Not great quality, and it gives the wrong year, but well worth a watch).

I was in Hockenheim yesterday. Supporting program sucked because it was basically F1. After two years of no F1, I was really shocked by two things. One thing was how you just can't hear the cars. Back in the day, you heard them 500m away from the track. Now, behind the pits, you can't hear them, and you can't hear them until you see them. The other thing, how freaking fast those cars are, just blew me away. I've seen other stuff in the past years since my last F1 visit, but the sheer speed, pretty cool! Weather was fine and there were massive clouds late afternoon. The Mercedes livery on track, it's hard to see the car has in fact two different colors.

Kubica was 0.6 seconds faster than Russel in FP1 with the new parts, which then fell off at the start of FP2. He ended up less than a tenth off, which is still better than recent pace.

Williams are now replacing his chassis because they can't repair the old one. Am I right in thinking that he has used the same chassis for the whole season so far, and has been complaining about some undetectable problem with it?
