the "just sign this deal or we'll drop you and take the race to zandvoort" kind of work.

What, they're going to threaten to run another race at Zandvoort for every track that doesn't play ball?

That sounds like an old school Bernie tactic. "We'll run Zandvoort 19 times a year, I don't give a fuck."

Lots to pick through here, as is often the case with Rencken, both on the topic of Liberty's hierarchy (is Malone fed up with Uncle Monopoly or has Carey himself had enough?) and the future of Mercedes (Dr. Z's replacement doesn't seem as keen on F1 as he is).

----------------------------

Still curious to discover who is paying for Zandvoort to do the work that needs doing and the hosting fee - I know the local government is covering some of it, but not all of it.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

logically i would say Taxpayer overall, or a private investor with interest.

and I thought Flavio Briatore was the real Bernie successor, in which will be Toto Wolff

why? Just why?

The current circuit had some great characteristics, especially seeing the cars going full throttle through the last corner.

Looks like a generic mix of COTA, Barcelona and maybe a bit of Turkey.

Interlagos is a wonderful track. It'll be a shame to lose it, but that's "progress" for ya.

Sao Paulo isn't the best city in the world though. If only we could transport the track somewhere nice.

Yea, they won't be able to build the track in that time

A known F1 journalist in Brazil has already mentioned that the area the track is supposed to be built on is a permanent preservation area with endangered flora so it needs to undergo an environmental study, which will take a lot longer than the 45 days they said would take for construction to start.

then they said is going to be funded entirely by private investors, that are known for starting the venture, and then declaring lack of funds, leaving an unfinished construction site or wanting public funding, that is simply unreasonable, since Rio de Janeiro is pratically bankrupt, that'll leave a destroyed track like Brasília circuit

https://www.autosport.com/f1/news/14326 ... small-bugs

OK, I know, I have a fondness for kicking Liberty at every opportunity that arises, but this baffles me. When so many other sports and entertainment services have been able to launch OTT services that are nearly perfect from day one (Champ Car did it 13 years ago!), what the actual fuck is the problem here? The service is 18 months old and it still falls over on GP weekends.
