The windscreen isn't ready yet, so there will be this as a stopgap;

That may work great if you have something coming at you from directly ahead but aside from that very specific scenario I don't see it really offering anymore protection than having nothing there at all.

Not surprised to see this substitute being used for this year, hopefully PPG can figure out the bugs in impact testing for the screen.

I din't know if the thing helps much, but on the other hand it's nowhere near as ugly as the halo. I don't mind it being there at all.
Also: I wonder how it'll affect the aerodynamics at 380kph.

Why hurry up? This is the last major open-wheel, open-cockpit series in the entire world. Every moment one of these cars takes the track without the protection is precious, as they're the last to do so in history. The later the better.

That man is fucking amazing.

And his fiancé is fucking amazing too. She's gone through an awful lot of hell too with all of this. It's really difficult to explain how hard it is to watch someone you love have something so horrible happen and realize that everything has changed. Some many questions come up and you wind up battling with your emotions and it's confusing and sometimes you just don't know what to do. If you've never been there that may not make sense.

Robbie's got a damn good woman there.

An encouraging video, but purely as an auto racing fan also discouraging... if there was any hope of returning to racing to begin with.

By all accounts the screen has been failing when large objects, such as wheels and wings, are thrown at it, so it's probably best they don't use it at mo...

Well given that the initial prognosis regarding his spinal injury was pretty uncertain, the fact that he already has some volitional use of his legs seems very encouraging to me.

Besides, he already has a hell of a lot more leg function than Alex Zanardi, and he's still racing.

Mainly I meant return to top level. He said at the end of last year iirc that he hopes to be able to walk in two years, so in any case he must be years away from driving any sort of car let alone any top level race car. These should be his prime years. Not everyone is as fearless as Zanardi after a serious accident (legs remaining or not).

I guess I'm just pessimistic because I did not believe we would ever see Kubica back in F1 either.

It wouldn't hurt him to set a touring car test with hand controls (like they did with Zanardi) to see if he still got the grip to race in the future

Egress from the car in case of emergency would be the first thing I'd worry about with Robert. Alex's legs don't function because they're not there, ergo, he does not have dead limbs as a hinderance to get out of the car in case the need arises.

At present, Robert's legs are more or less useless and his ability to extricate himself from the car is entirely different than Alex's.

HOWEVER... That's at present. Who knows where he will be in a year or so. Personally, as much as I'd like to see him race IndyCar again, I'd rather he be able to walk and have a fairly normal life. If he got back in the car and had another big crash, his back surely won't be 100% ever again and the risk of re-injury would be much higher.

Still no UK TV deal according to Pruett.

Alonso will use #66 this year.

https://racer.com/2019/02/25/insight-wh ... -in-years/

The first article of the year examining the car count for Bump Day.

The tl;dr;

-A third ASPM car, driver unconfirmed.
-Possibly a third Carlin car.
-Clauson-Marshall entering a car (likely to be Pippa Mann with support from Foyt).
-A third DCR car, driver unconfirmed.
-2 DRR cars, drivers unconfirmed.
-Possibly a second Harding car (they do have a lease from Honda and a chassis).
-Possibly 2 Juncos cars.

If all the possibles made it out, there would be 38 entrants. A minimum of 35 is expected (only real question marks are over the second Harding car and the Juncos cars).
