Dammit, no option left for Ocon then.

McLaren and Williams are proof that when caught in a death spiral things can go south very very quickly. Carlos Sainz as their lead driver and a guy who hasn't really impressed me all that much from F2 compared to what his hype is.

I don't really understand this. Lando's undoubtedly very talented but at this stage in his career, what's he going to bring to McLaren that Vandoorne can't? I'd keep him in F2 another year, especially considering he hasn't exactly been setting the world alight since winning in Bahrain. This seems very unfair on Stoffel.

Everyone seems to just be looking for the next Max/Sebastian. They have dozens of drivers driving their simulators, they'll ditch him in a couple years for the next new sensation unless he proves to be absolutely exceptional. There's not as much added value to experience anymore in the current button-ridden, engineer-driven F1 cars.

I used to hear that some drivers were valuable for car development even if they weren't necessarily the fastest guys out there, it doesn't seem to be the case anymore. The sensors on the car tell you all you need to know, and engineers know and feel better things about the car than the driver himself. You just need someone in the seat that can click with F1 and not be out of his depth (like Palmer was for exemple).

I completely agree. Additionally, McLaren, as Vandoorne has shown, is definitely not the right place for a rookie at the moment. I'm fairly sure that this is going to be a career-ending move for Norris unless he does something truly exceptional. Which he won't, because he'll be in a McLaren.

Vandoorne says he will be in F1 next year. But where? Williams or Toro Rosso seem to be the only free seats, as Sauber has already said that he is not an option for 2019.

What bets Lando Norris picks a sub-25 number as his permanent car number?

Also, should Kvyat return to Toro Rosso, then its like repeatedly returning to an abusive ex.

Kvyat is clearly being used as a tool to make Max win the championship

McLaren, where F1 careers go to die...

Sam Michael
Martin Whitmarsh
Ron Dennis
Jenson Button
Fernando Alonso
Stoffel Vandoorne

They also gave Perez and Magnussen a good go as well.

I really think that Markelov should get a shot. Plenty experience and racecraft at least.
