Not a pic, but the 1998 Italian Grand Prix race in German. This 2018 season has been relatively decent (by some luck as well)... but it still can't compare to this. Schumacher on pole but both McLarens get an insane start (expecially Mika), both McLarens pull away from the rest, then Coulthard takes the lead but has an engine blow while Schumacher reels Mika in and passes for the lead...etc. Why did their tires smoke so much when leaving the grid on the formation lap and on the race start? These days there is hardly any smoke.

Probably rubbering the surface for the proper start.

Also, by winning that race, they were going to the next round, Nurburbring tied in points. I remember the hype at the end of this race.

Wait.

WAIT!

That's 20 years ago?

When I started to watch F1, 20 years ago meant ancient history. Niki Lauda had yet to win his first GP.

and 10 years ago Senna was hitting Prost to win his 2nd championship, not Massa losing the title on details

My second all time favourite season after 1997!

Good ol' Mark Webber in the Minardi-Asiatech in France 2002. The Asiatech engine was essentially a rebranded Peugeot:

The 2002 Toyota TF102 looked very similar to the PS01 due to them both being designed by Gustav Brunner

Webber was genuinely competitive during this GP, think he finished 8th and not that far behind the 6th place finisher IIRC

I know Webber is tall, but he's perched so high up in that car :8:

It looks even more ridiculous when you compare it with short-ass Alonso
