highlights of the AIS race at Nashville Fairgrounds from 1992

-

Knew this series ran on some short tracks like this (i.e. Shangri-La, Colorado National, I-70) but still pretty neat to see some footage of it.

Rare footage indeed! Although about the series itself, I once asked Jeremy Shaw on twitter if he had any good memories of the AIS to which he answered "not really".

I found the results for that race (apparently it was run in 91). They're pretty hilarious really.

Safety car yakety

Anyway, the 80s are filled with a lot of scary crashes. Watched those races in the span of 15 days or so. Very crazy. Also funny they praising safety when the driver "only" broke both his legs.

Some of those wrecks in the aluminum coffin era you were lucky indeed to only break your legs.

The 60's and 70's were bad, but those 80's cars were only slightly less of a death trap.

I think ESPN has skipped 1995 for the last few years now. Which is odd because I believe they offer every race from 1967 onward on their new subscription service.

That clip of Salt Walther ripping into his chief mechanic at 41:42 was wonderful.

Salt didn't have the best reputation, but he certainly had a valid point. Don't make a drastic adjustment before a race without practicing first.
