Safety car for James Golding who's had a fire or blown engine. There should only be a couple of laps left once we get going again.

That fire was towards the back of the car?

I think it must have been an oil fire, it's smoked out the cabin but you can't actually see any fire.

Restart.

And the stream completely died again

Reynolds wins, the race got shortened by two laps even though it's an hour and a half to the F1 race.

Percat got 2nd which is another strong performance by him.

I'm happy for Reynolds & Erebus. They keep getting better.

I don't know why major series bother sharing events with F1 when they're always treated as second class citizens.

But there is bigger news, in the form of Holden suspending development of the V6 turbo, which I did not see coming.

I have a couple of theories. The first is that they are looking at bringing in the Camaro now that Walkinshaw is selling it here, which would be more popular with the fans anyway and would make sense if Ford is running the Mustang.

The second is that Holden (and Triple Eight?) don't see the point in developing a new engine when Nissan isn't confirmed beyond 2018, the Ford teams haven't confirmed that they will be running the Mustang (and even if they did they wouldn't be developing a new engine anyway) and there's been no serious indication that any other manufacturer is interested in entering the category. Maybe the series will be running a different formula in a few years, perhaps an alteration of the current one with less emphasis on development or an entirely different one again.
