Ah, so high rain probability for tonight?

From what I can see there's rain predicted for around 8PM (so 1h into QLF). But Fabs is probably a better person to post predictions.
I'm not an expert so I'm not allowed to post here.

:(

Next year, maybe, you will be expert.

Greaves hits the nail on the head with what could happen with these news LMP2 regs.

ACO. ..When you've got such a good thing going as WEC these past few years why not mess it up by creating a spec lmp2, slow down lmp1 and increase costs in GT.

To hell with the fans and being a popular Motorsport, let's take this back to the early 2000s manufactuerless irrelevance. ... :whistling:

Wonder how Nissan feel about being beaten by their own 490hp P2 engine.

What is preventing that from occurring as is though? Let's say the current regs continued as is, would teams not opt for the quickest package anyway? I don't see how the new regs will change that train of thought.

I also don't believe that there will be a clear stand-out car considering that the tenders will likely go out to manufacturers with experience and staff capable of producing great products. Oreca clearly have the advantage at this stage however the Zytek has shown that even with an older, less efficient package, they can still win outright and in raw pace are less than a second slower around Le Mans, pretty insignificant in the grand scheme of things.

The category basically runs a spec engine as it is and there's what? 6 different manufacturers running. I dunno, I just don't see the end of the world with all of this.

Not really fond on the LMP2 rules, aren't they looking at the current grid? That's about as healthy as ever, why ruin it with another set of new rules.

Currently healthy, but the P2 constructors/people themselves have predicted costs will get out of hand if this continues.

 When they realized LMP1s improved 5s, ACO shortly afterwards already started talking about slowing them down :slaphead: These guys really likes to shoot themselves in the foot. As Audi's Jüttner said, they should leave the aero and engine/hybrid as they currently are and not worry about the big gains in speed. This has been very exciting and, afterall, it's what racing is also about, ie, developing and getting faster.

Read elsewhere that Hartley twitted Porsche will focus on race setup today, so maybe no 3.15/3.14 from them. Hope at least Audi and Toyota put some qualifying effort at some point instead of using all qualifying's time to work on race setup(maybe 4h of Practice and 6h of Qualifyings is more than enough for work in race setup)

Rain or not, the 4 hours today will feature plenty of yellows, that's pretty much for sure :p

The intent was never for the 2014-cars to be this fast this soon and this isn't something that suddenly came up just now. Clearly some miscalculations were made on how quickly they'd get to the higher megajoules. I remember when the regs were still unfinished that there were serious concerns that the new cars could be barely faster than LMP2.

Everyone who is not new to ACO racing and has followed close enough should have seen this coming already after Silverstone. The "3:30" (means race pace and apparently now 3:20) Le Mans lap time has been there for ages as a ballpark for safety. This is why I'm sick of this circlejerking to the new lap records etc, because this slow down was always coming. I would have rather had small but incremental lap time advancements over many years because it is fun to have a baseline.

Now that LMP2 and GTE are going to get faster the slow down can't be too much or there are going to be passing problems.

Radio Le Mans have now put a session timer on their StudioVision stream :D Should now be easy to sync it to any video stream you're watching.

Spacing the cars as they leave the pits. Never done that before.

I think there is very little objectivity in stabilishing what laptime can be considered safe. People can die lapping at 3:30 or at 3:10. ACO must focus on making the circuit and the cars safer, speed is what we're here for, imho.

That Nissan onboard  Kept it together with the Toyota ahead on the straight, but then came the first chicane and Toyota vanished in sight

That's an odd angle, did he have a brake failure through the chicane?

Yeaa, looks like he turned for the chicane but didn't slow down at all.
