I don't think Nissan have the resources to be competitive in LMP1. I thought I was pretty clear on that.

Is that some kind of a persistent state, they can't obtain resources just like every other manufacturer? Maybe they won't build a completely new facility just like Porsche did and maybe they won't have the largest yearly budget, but we are still talking about the six largest manufacturer by numbers in the world.

Well that's what I mean, they don't have the wealth of experience and R&D like Audi/Joest, they don't have the budget and facilities of Toyota, and they don't have the commitment and history of Porsche, and as long as Ghosn is the boss, you can forget about any even medium term commitment from the factory without success. That's been the way Renault/Nissan have operated under Ghosn.

I still don't get it, because you can make that point about almost any manufacturer without recent experience or TMG-like facilities already ready (btw, Toyota actually has the smallest budget according to some reported figures). Like Peugeot who pretty much started from scratch.

They've probably learned something from the P2 engine program (and probably more then they ever will learn from the ZEOD, no matter how their PR tries to spin it) and as far as I've understood the Nismo facilities in Japan are pretty big, but it is not confirmed where this program will be geographically based and who will be involved.

I don't think history means much at all in this sense, but if you want to think so, then you're definitely forgetting something... :whistling:

Allan McNish has been named Grand Marshal for this edition, while Fernando Alonso will give the start as a representative of the manufacturer with the highest number of entrants and soon in LMP1 (ok I just made that up)

Personally I think we might see Alonso race Le Mans when his F1 career is done.

Whether that's in a LMP1 Ferrari is a whole other matter.

BTW someone told me this news today as "Have you heard? Alonso will start the Le Mans 24?" and I thought it was a much bigger deal than it turned out to be
