So we can look forward to the ZEOD car, possibly some safety changes around the fast parts of the La Sarthe circuit and more reinforced barriers next year then?

I'm trying to guess what ZEOD is an acronym for. I'm assuming it is ZEro Original Designs.

Yeah, looks like he corrects instinctively on how much grip there was on the paint, but gains more grip on the road which resulted in the overcorrection, if you can call it that.

Don't all cars have that system though? commonly called the ignition switch.

Bullshit indeed, they were arguing about it on Eurosport during the night and Martin was saying pretty much same as you.

Porsche!

Finally getting a third top tier prototype team will add the spice this race needs at the front. The rest of the show is excellent so really looking forward the Porsche's return. I do love Lemans. One of the last truly great race tracks in the world that has been left mostly unmolested. I don't particularly count the Dunlop Chicane, the Porsche curves or the back straight chicanes as bastardized changes because they didn't really impact the flavor of the track. I would be greatly disappointed if they change Tertre Rouge, as it isn't the corner that caused the problem, it's the shit ball barriers. When F1 goes to Monaco sometimes those guys really hammer the barriers and they're not spending hours on end welding them back together.

But... Consider this, while the barriers are a pain in the ass due to the downtime, they do give, and in a great many circumstances many drivers can probably owe their lives to that fact (here's looking at you Rocky.) The problem yesterday was the opposite side of the coin. The barrier gave way right into a tree behind it. So, the solution is either stronger barriers with crash absorption in front of them (that has to be removeable since they're public roads so you can't use SAFER barrier for instance) or cut down the trees. That goes for Tertre Rouge only though, as other parts of the track that are much faster would require other solutions.

Clearly something will be done. Be it using the large foam blocks like they have in Japan, the Tecpro barriers used in F1, or some other means. Whatever they do I hope they don't knee jerk and ruin the corner.

I do think some of the strange safety car periods we saw later in the race were a result of being very cautious given what had happened earlier in the race.

Oh, and fuck that ZEOD piece of shit.

To me it sounded like he was talking about thoughts being with Simonsen's mother, father, sisters and brothers but my French isn't the best.

I think it was something along the lines that he was a good son, brother, father. Some of it was in English up until the end. SPEED commentators said he wanted a cheer from the crowd in Allan's memory.

My French is real rusty though seeing as how it's been at least a decade since I studied it.

this makes it seem like any ordinary crash of which I have seen lots already. We see it happen, we shout, we cheer, we curse that we were too late to make a live "action" photo, and we wait for the frustrated driver to come out of his car. Too bad it doesn't always end like this.

Something like that yes. Most of what he said in French, he repeated in English. I missed some parts because our commentator thought it was a good idea to talk about something else during the speech.

About Porsche joining LMP1, will it be certain that Audi will continue? Because Audi and Porsche are belonging to the same group?

Pretty certain yes. AFAIK Audi has already started working on its 2014-car (correct me if I'm wrong) and I don't think they would do a Peugeot, as in suddenly quitting in February

that amateur footage is interesting. At least two or three cars prior to Simonsen got out of shape or spun completely.

Is it me or did Simonsen lose control by taking avoiding action?

I wouldn't call it avoiding action. On the onboard camera of the Corvette that was right behind him you see there was actually not much reason to change line. He only moved a bit before losing it completely. I think he just went too far over the cerb which might have been wet or oily, and it had nothing to do with the cars spinning in front of him.

Been down to the accident zone. He did indeed hit a tree. The bark is stripped off.

I've always wondered why there's no tyres there and the exit of the ford curves where the Porsche had the huge hit a couple of years ago. Some very basic rows of tyres could've saved his life.
