Yep, only 14 DP's this year.

2009: 19
2008: 25
2007: 28

Key contenders lost from last season: The second Brumos car, Penske, and then AIM Autosport are skipping the Rolex 24 to focus on the rest of the schedule. Also missing are Childress-Howard Motosports & both Beyer Racing cars.

The GT field looks amazing though, even with Farnbacher Loles closing up shop.

I'm pulling for the team of Barbosa, Borcheller, Dalziel, & Rockenfeller to pull an upset.

Isn't Action Express Racing essentially the second Brumos car?

Yes, it's a generic team created by Brumos, to a enter a second car and reduce the costs.

I'll be there yet again marshaling, lord knows where yet... I'll let you all know when the time arises on Thursday morning.

I think with the diminished DP field Ganassi is looking really good - the BMW has good power and reliability. That said if either of them do happen to falter, the Suntrust #10 has looked good in all the sessions and is in with a shout, and the Action Express car has a decent lineup if they can hold together.

GT is a crapshoot but I'm really excited for it, lots of really good cars with massive talent, and a deep field compared to the DP's... *Pssssssst* GT's in the overall podium? ;)

It would be awesome if a GT climb to the overall top 5. :D

Hmm, that was at the test days last weekend... He's not appeared on the official list for the race yet, so we shall see... Would be a great team though, and definitely one to contend for the overall win.

Nice to see a bit of GT class variety with the Camaros and the M6. I'm always delighted to see Matt Connolly running that geriatric GTO too. It might be outdated but it's still gorgeous - looks pretty sharp in white.

Matt runs his shop about 20 or 30 minutes from my home in Pennsylvania, so I did take the opportunity one day to go up and see the (tiny) shop, meet some of the guys, chill around, put in some work, that sort of thing... Matt is a super nice guy, very dedicated to what he does, and really puts his all into it. Everyone you talk to says the same thing about him, just the nicest guy around and really loves his racing. The GTO.R is still a great car too, Pontiac wanted him to upgrade the body to a GXP.R way back when, but he didn't have the funds... Great to see him getting two cars in the field this year too.

#55 and #95 lineups are looking damn strong for the race:

#55: Bouchut/Tucker/Bourdais/Maassen/Collard
#95: Bouchut/Tucker/Luhr/Westbrook/Hunter-Reay

They looked good at the end of last season, if they stay reliable they will be wicked fast.

One thing i have wondered lately, not just with Daytona but also with other 24hr races at Spa and Dubai etc... is the increasing amount of drivers per car. In the 90s 3 was the norm, in the early 00's it crept up to 4, and now we are seeing some teams starting to run run 5 drivers per car.... an interesting trend

A shame there's not too many DP's, should still be a good race though :)

I'd expect SPEED to put an onboard stream on their site and maybe a normal feed for when they aren't showing it on TV.
