When McNish is complaining about the conditions, I believe it must be bad.

Whats more annoying is they did the NASCAR BS of "We're going to go green! We have a window!" for 4 hours.

Oh well. Wasted night.

Sucks. I thought they were going to get this thing going for a couple of hours at least.

Hey guys, it's me. Twas a very interesting day at PLM. A fun one, tho.

Started off, it was me, my mom, my brother, and his girlfriend - in different vehicles - me in my own, and my family in another. After close to two hours, my family decided "we don't want to get caught out in this weather," and so they left, and I helped them pack and leave. I got back, and had a hell of a time walking across the track - which is very hilly - back to my vantage point, at Spectator Hill. Thank heaven for a vendor who was kind enough to give me a ride.

For a reference point, McNish spun out right in front of me.

When the red flag came out, I headed for turn three, walking all the way this time (shuttle buses, which were there at the track, were sadly not there when I needed them). Eventually, I made it to Mr. Kaczmarek, and upon arrival, I asked him the stupidest question I could have: "Were you the fatalz marshal?" Either way, Brendan and I pretty much shot the breeze for the length of the red flag period. Twas pretty fun. Would have ruled to see some racing, but that was out of the question.

The red flag was not for rain. It was for the thunder and lightning that accompanied the rain, and for safety reasons (don't want corner workers, drivers, or spectators to get struck by lightning), they had to red flag the race. It was pretty sad, too. Every time it would start lighting up, looking almost as if we could get back going, another large burst of lightning would strike, and that would be that.

In addition, I think the dip just past corner 4 was flooded. A lot of cars, jet dryers, and the like were stationed there, trying to get the flood (uncreatively named by me "The Panoz River") unflooded. There was no way they could have restarted that race. I don't think TV could have done it justice.

It finally did stop raining right after they called it. Sucks, but that's that. Can't wait for next year.

I quite understand why they called it, and I wasn't surprised one bit. Atlanta was really drenched this week.

Also...

It's not about the French winner. Don't jump to conclusions. It's probably more about the fact that the race couldn't go the full way.

Personally, I'm indifferent about the winner, although I would have loved Audi to win. Damn shame McNish spun there during the caution.

Joey, was it obvious shortly into the red flag period that the race wouldn't be getting restarted? If so, they should have called the race much sooner. I know I didn't appreciate being told there was a good chance they'd be going green for nearly 4 hours only for the race to be called, and I can't imagine a lot of the fans at the track did either.

About an hour or two into the red flag, I started to figure "that's it", and I thought it was insane that IMSA was considering restarting the race. There was a fuckton of vehicles not far from me and Brendan - over in the low point of the esses, I am assuming, to try to take care of a possible flood that was going on down there. I didn't think they'd get back to green. It was way too messy for them to restart.

By the time the race was called, a lot of the fans at the track (that weren't camped out) had already left, so at least traffic wasn't half bad.

Then I agree with you that's a pretty bad conclusion to this race. :(
