I dont like this at all. Where does this leave Porsche, Jaguar, and the other manufacturers that were supposed to come in?

Will this also mean Audi and Peugeot will need a new car or pull out?

I may be getting the rules confused here, but I doubt they would be able to do that with the LMP2 cost cap. Wasn't that the reason that nobody could use the Porsche RS Spyder? The teams would not be able to bring it to the new LMP2 spec because it would cost too much.

Brendan is talking about LMS. Audi and Peugeot are doing WEC, not LMS.

Assuming that WEC uses the current ILMC method of using events from other series to make up the majority of the calender, this is still an issue. 3 of this years 7 events are LMS (Spa, Imola and Silverstone)

They won't change to LMP2 rules because the ACOs basic plan is to have the big constructors running P1 cars and the privateers running P2s. There's also more competition to brag about beating in P1, and "First in class" is not "Le Mans winner", marketing wise.

I can't remember where I read this. But I thought that WEC would become a standalone series. And of course the news that no longer P1 cars can race in LMS confirms this. Obviously Spa won't be a round of the LMS, but instead of the WEC. It can't be of both since P1's are forbidden in LMS now. If anyone can find a source, please post.

Here's a reliable source (with a link to the official LMS site): http://mariantic.co.uk/lmp/

Some questions off the top of my head:

How many prototypes will race in WEC? Does the FIA have the absolute certainty of an healthy and competitive LMP1 grid?

Will non-works LMP1 teams get frustrated by Audi/Peugeot dominance after a while and revert to LMP2 in LMS?

Will LMP2 teams compete in WEC as well?

Not an issue. The LMS announcement confirmed that the LMS would not be sharing any events with the WEC (which we've known since Spa, anyway). No new news there.

1) Based on this year, I'd say they're looking at a minimum of 8 cars for next year. I expect Peugeot and Audi to be there with 2 cars each, Aston Martin with 2 (maybe), and Rebellion with 2 since they've been booted from the LMS. If Nissan and Toyota wind up ready for next year I suspect they'll be there as well, so maybe as many as 12 cars full time in LMP1?

2) If they're not frustrated now, they won't be. The Pug/Audi dominance has been going on since 2007 all around the world - no other team has won a major international event against Audi or Peugeot since then. LMP2 would require another major investment...

3) LMP2 will be allowed in the WEC, of course, but it's tough to say what European teams (which comprise the entire LMP2 grid around the world, except for Level 5) have the budget or desire to run the WEC as compared to the LMS.

Although you could argue the rules were in their favour, Sebring 12 hours counts IMO! Penske won in 2008 with the Spyder. But I still see what you mean.
