Looks good. Rear end where the engine is situated looks a little big, but not that bad looking.

Probably an option for Rebellion racing, since the LOLA will be useless soon.

Rebellion will likely be announcing an in-house 2014 project - at least that's the strong rumor.

Not sure if that will be with Multimatic and the Lola name or if they'll do their own work.

didn't know that :(

this is top motorsport, it should be about making the cars quicker in cornering/braking and not this constant "holding back"

Hope Perrinn succeeds, though. Quite a nice initiative from a former Williams aerodynamicist

If someone builds a time machine and reverts racing knowhow back to 1970s level, then we can have that.

I like the current super big wheels, but maybe the cars will look 0.5% more loose due the reduced grip.

The current braking and cornering grip was insane as it was, especially in mid-to-high speed corners. You can't imagine how quickly they decelerate and turn in until you see it in person. The tyres were already the largest used in pretty much any series globally - I'm glad they've reduced the tyre size, honestly. Should change the behavior of the cars pretty significantly.

I actually spent some time specifically looking at the LMP1 braking during the WEC round at Spa. It was incredibly impressive, indeed.

The tires are not that big.

LMP1 rears are 37cm afaik, the same as in F1

Group C cars tires looked even bigger than what we have now, I don't think it was imperative to change it but I'll wait to see the effect of it

Afaik (and straight from the regulations)...

F1 w 15" (front 14"), d 26"
P1 w 16", d 28.5"
P2 w 14", d 28"

w = width, d = diameter

Don't trust your eyes, as especially the shape of GrC cars made them appear smaller (but they were not) making the tyres appear bigger. But the tyres were not bigger: max width was 16" (source: this from 1991 meaning it was same for both C1 and C2)

The GB08 is wicked, here's hoping the GB09 is just as good.

Seems like DP is gaining serious traction now, and I'm not sure how I feel about it yet. On the obvious hand, P2 is technically superior, faster, has plenty of international interest, and I'd rather see that class be successful. But if we're getting both private and factory interest in building new DPs as well as brand new engines (the Ford turbo, perhaps an Audi V10), then maybe things aren't so bad, especially if we're end up with an increase in pace of even a few percent. Would it be relevant worldwide? Probably not, but DP does solve one fundamental problem that LMP1 has at the moment:

Privateers can run factory-spec cars. That's what's killed LMP1, and even if it is a dumbed down formula, DP allows privateers to get their hands on that same equipment, which makes money for the factories as well.

For now, I'm excited. That may be based on hope of a decent change in the relative pace of the DP concept, but I think there's a good chance of that happening.

Well, I don't know if regulations changed or whatever, but I read a while ago on mulsannecorner.com, in an article regarding Pegeout and Audi LMP1 of 2009 or something, that they had 37cm width rear tires and that they introduced a new Michelin wider tire at the front measuring 36cm iirc.

For sure the diameter of current P1/P2s are much bigger than that of F1s, but P1 tire's width are really the same as F1's rear's, me thinks

Anyway, that's quite a irrelevant discussion and is probably ruining the thread for the others :p

First time I saw a Group C car (live) I was shocked how small they where. On the pictures you think they look massive, but in real live they look actually pretty small, so maybe that's why the tyres looks so massive on the cars.

Couldn't find that from Mulsannescorner, but the regulations has not changed. I guess the Michelin tyres (the off-the-shelve versions at least, which are probably not the ones actually Peugeot/Audi/Toyota used/uses) are simply not the max allowed size.

Found this: http://www.michelinman.com/mediabin/App ... ge2011.pdf

33/65 - 18 539P LMP1, front
37/71 - 18 490P LMP1, rear
LMP2/SR2 (front) 27/65 - 18 or 30/65 - 18, (rear) 31/71 - 18

(For sure "rears on front" trend cars are not using the above front tyre anyway... possibly the 36 cm version then as you said)

I was pretty sure it was 37cm at the rears. The article was about the first year in which they started using rear tires on the front. But it was really the 37cm one, initially. Later, Michelin provided one more suited to the work of a front tire but in a almost rear tire size of 35 or 36cm, don't remember exactly

edit:
Found them, here they are:
http://www.mulsannescorner.com/AcuraARX-02.html

This first one was for the 2009 Acura where Wirth Research simply decided to utilize the rear tires on all four wheels. On the bottom of the page you can see the size of them: 37/71-18

Later Michelin provided tailored wide tires for the front end of Peugeot and Audi as stated in that link:
Quote:
The ultimate irony is that with Peugeot and Audi's adaptation of the wide fronts concept just a few seasons later Michelin did end up manufacturing proper wide front compounds.

Also, from Toyota's official website:
http://www.toyotahybridracing.com/team/car/
TS030
Font tyres 36/71-18 (note: the typo is from them, I merely copy and pasted it :p )
Rear tyres 37/71-18

I was no longer disagreeing, so simply the regulations would allow a bit bigger ones but probably for some very good reasons the Michelins are not. The earlier max sizes I posted are correct, directly from the regulations, just rounded to inches.

Oh, I know. I just wanted to bring the article I mentioned earlier ;)

If there was tire competition, for sure Michelin would use full width allowed for the tires

Not sure if I agree with this and it's quite late decision anyway. (Speaking of which, time for 24LM thread...)
