Jeez, that's awful news.

The atmosphere will be very subdued through the whole race.

I was confident, with the amount of replays shown, that he was going to be alright.

This is the first live fatal crash I have seen in motorsport.

Oliver Gavin was interviewed a while ago & he said there are tree's right behind the barrier there & that it looked like the car had gone through the barrier & hit one of the tree's.

Definitely need the TecMo barrier at that spot.

They said he was talking to the medics after the accident.

This has hit me worse than anything else. Simonsen is, well was, such a fantastic guy.

when they showed the repair work, i thougth i saw a tree that was completely "peeled" off, but i thought my eyes played tricks on me. now i think i got it right and he hitted this massive tree behind the armco. would explain something. this is really terrible. maybe someone of you guys has this scene recorded? :(

Oh what the hell - when I turned off a few hours ago they were saying he was conscious and there was no concern. Terrible.

I did notice when they were doing the aerial shot of the barrier repair that there was a large tree pretty much exactly where they were having to repair stuff.

Really wasn't expecting this, such a great driver, racing in so many categories.

RIP

Same here. I just came home, turned on the tv and heard them talking about the Krosnoff, Moore and Gonzalez fatalities, and I was wondering why. THen I found it, and I just went completely numb.

It was only on his fourth lap.

All of our thoughts are with his family and friends.

Apart from the marshal at Italian GP 2000, I think it's the first one I've seen.
