I don't care about the sexism pov, but I find it just tacky. And usually the smaller the series, the more there are grid girls and the tackier they are. Plus mandatory shots of them in every damn highlight video.

ps. Sure not a late April fools joke?

Good move, needs to happen in all Motorsport. So tacky and it's objectification to the tee.

So what would you say to the grid girl who enjoys being a grid girl? You know most of these girls get paid to stand in front of the car/bike right? It's not like someone puts a gun to their head and demands it.

Agreed. The majority of the time these are models who are employed into these positions by the agencies that represent them.

Stockholm Syndrome?

What would you say to the young girls in the crowd who see the men lauded as Heroes and the females as mere decoration?

Hopefully more of them will be inspired to start karting than picking up a make up kit and start dolling themselves up to ridiculous caked on levels in the hope they might get to stand on the grid for 20 mins in a tight lycra outfit...

Motor racing can do it's part to reduce the concept of a particular stereotype, but that's merely a drop in the ocean. There are far more outlets that influence perception that could / should do more to help solve for that.

Basically, we want to work towards a sport girls want to be a part of, not one they feel they have to be paid to turn up to.

If you're that sensitive to it then perhaps you'd like to do away with make-up, barbie dolls and push-up bras? Have we asked the grid-girls what they think?

Only at TBK are there members that complain about too much overtaking, grid-girls, free DLC for gaming, etc...

I don't think we're putting poor innocent grid girls out of work, I'm sure there's plenty of jobs still out there for someone who wants to get by on their looks.

This is more about the message it sends out as a family friendly motorsport series to have females there as sex symbols, mere decoration before and after the males get on with the busy work of racing.

It's just another element that proves the wider world of racing is stuck in the 1950s and how it is falling behind the modern wider world.

While I agree with the sentiments, I disagree with the approach. We're fixating on a minor aspect (grid-girls) and not considering a wider issue (the latter part of your post which Dickie agreed with). My point is about the wider aspect. There are so many items to consider if you want to make a female attend a motor race. Why aren't we looking to understand what those are and solve for them? I don't pretend to know what they are, but what I do know is that focusing on removing grid-girls is ignoring the wider issue and will barely make a difference.

Well, as I say, WEC wants to promote more of a family friendly image, which makes sense for it as its a 6hr+ event so there's going to be all kinds of sideshows, funfairs and activities for the kids etc to keep their attention going from 12pm until 6pm or whatever

Grid girls don't really mesh with that image. Hey families, come to WEC, there'll be exciting cars, games to play, rides and all kinds of fun. Dad will spend a confusing amount of time staring at all kinds of girls in tight lycra, mum will get angry at him, they'll have a big row and you'll wish you never came!!

This is an important first step tbh.

What I'd really like to see is the reaction from TBK's female membership, as this affects them and its all well and good being internet white knights on their behalf but this is being done for them so it's their opinions that carry the most weight on this issue, but alas, we don't have any.
That's probably the wider issue in a nutshell.

I asked the wife, she said if she was a grid girl and this happened, she'd be mighty pissed off, she doesn't find grid girls offensive or degrading, as she said, you'd be surprised just how many women check them out them too.

Just because the decision maker thinks something is offensive and bans it, doesn't mean the people who you think are being offended, are. Maybe Marv should ask some opinions next time he's on the Fun cup grid, see what the reaction is from the girls themselves. Suggesting grid girls are suffering from Stockholm Syndrome is beyond silly, have you actually talked to a model?

If you are worried about the sexualisation of women then best direct your complaints to the education authorities and your local MP, as they are the ones who want 6 year old primary school kids given sex education.

The question no-one is answering is what exactly do they add to the sport?

Also this isn't about putting grid girls out of work, more the girls in the stands being inspired to be something more than just a sex object which if anything is of little consequence to the event taking place.

There'll never be a lack of demand for a girl in other places, don't worry about them.
