I somehow really like that car.

Very good that Nissan is doing something different(not the DW PR stunt kind of different, but a good one) but I hope this doesn't turn out to be a huge fiasco, pace-wise.

lol, no. Maybe 400 is possible if the car is only designed to do that, but then it's also going to be a turtle in the corners.

And the horsepower figure if even true would be only for a very short period of time. Won't stop Hindy from circle jerking to it in every other sentence just like he already does for Toyota ("ONE THOUSAND horsepower"). Facepalm. I'd rather have half of that but no traction control on the combustion engine, no practical traction control on the electric motors and a way more regulated engine mappings.

The difference is that the Toyota (and Audi, and Porsche) also have the ability to produce 2000hp if they applied all of the hybrid energy at once, for a nano-second. But the Toyotas 1000hp is actually usable power.

The Nissan won't have a usable 1000hp. It'll be the same power range as everything else. However this car will either dominate, or fail. And judging by the incredibly simplistic aero on the side (so simple it makes the AMR-One look advanced), I'm betting Rebellion are fancying their chances of beating this car.

I won't even judge the aero of it because of the far away shots. The front-engine concept alone makes me very doubtfull about it's pace. I think they missed an old and simple trick with this. Would be a shame, though, as I was eager for a 4-way battle

Nissan sucks, season's over already, don't bother showing up guys no point.

Or maybe it's year 1 of a multi year program and we've seem one spy shot of it in not ideal conditions?

Love the front engine. Harkens back to the old days when people would show up at a race with something totally off-beat.

Far away shots show the completely flat side panel, which hasn't been the case for LMPs for years now. The only exception is the AMR-One, because it attempted to route all of the air through the car rather than send it out the sides. If you look at at the new Porsche 919 you'll see it has quite advanced aero behind the number panel on the sides.



The TS040 and the R18 are the same story.

There's also the basic problems of putting an engine in the front. Cooling (for the cockpit), weight distribution and putting the power through the front wheels are all serious issues. The front wheels are larger than the rear, so that kinda confirms thats the petrol engine will probably drive the front wheels, with the hybrid system (flywheel) driving the rear. The rear wing could be an optional part as there are suggestions it'll run Le Mans without it, which also suggests this car is designed purely for Le Mans and not a full WEC season.

There's also questions of whether or not the car is even legal, because the fin doesn't cover the full area specified. Given that's a safety feature, rather than just a technical regulation for the sake of it, it's hard to see how they'll get around that.

I love that they're showing up with something mad and different, and finally, something race legal (apart from the fin question). I think that's amazing. But let's not say "Oh you can't judge it from one picture". Well actually yes you can (we actually have lots of pictures anyway), and when something looks simple, it often is. Hence the failures of the AMR-One, Pescarolo 03, and the incredible Lavaggi LS1. I love the Nissan because it shows the diversity of the LMP1 regulations. But I think it'll be a complete failure. The fact it's only covered around 100km of testing, whilst Porsche had covered over 100,000km by this point in their project says quite a lot.

And if Darren Cox keeps saying "At Nissan we like to do things differently", I hope he gets reminded of that if the car does fail badly.

As for the flat side panels, I do agree that it would be a no-brainer if the car had a rear engine. That exiting holes on the side are essential to sucking air out(it kind of is a front diffuser and, IIRC, it was firstly used by John Illey in his Allard back in circa 93) of the frontal underside and thus increasing front downforce. But because this is a front-engine car, I guess they might be trying to do something completely different(Fuller speculates the upright drop gear is to clear space for ducts to activate the front diffuser)

The car does look rudimentary, aerodynamically, and likely, as you said, specially designed for Le Mans rather than a WEC all rounder. Fuller points several indicators for that. I think one of the main ones is the supposed narrower rear width(for lower drag). It will force to use narrower tires(in the rear axle) in order to not lose diffuser width. The focus really seems to be all on decreasing drag, by Fuller's sources and analysis.
