Maybe this is a stupid question, but why are they going all gung-ho for a couple of spots on the grid? Surely the difference between 3rd and 1st isn't worth the risk?

I remember that very, very close finish between Audi and Peugeot 2-3 years ago, if they hadn't started 4th/5th they would have been right there :p

But prestige is the most important reason

Franchitti is in the gravel at Indianapolis and the #33 Level 5 HPD is beached. Yellow flags are out from Mulsanne Corner while Franchitti has rejoined.

Careful, Ellis likes him. He can ban you while he is at the Mulsanne Corner. :p

Because this (big image) http://www.dindocapello.com/foto/2006/L ... art878.jpg makes for some great images on TV and in the newspaper as that's the picture they usually publish the most.

Fair enough. I guess it doesn't get too much coverage over here besides the usual motorsport websites, so I figured the prestige factor wasn't worth enough to risk wrecking the car, especially considering the amount of crashes we've had already.

Hope this doesn't mean the race ebbs out into the 24 heures du testicules bleu.

Slightly relevant: Sarrazin just did a 26.6 which is picking up the pace.

Buemi getting in now. Surprised to see him still wearing a Red Bull helmet. I thought he (or vice versa) cut his ties with RB?
