They give trophies to privateer wins.

Speaking of private and works entries, why is that pile of shit Lotus in P2? That's really not what P2 is for. It might be a joke of a car but that's a works entry.

Isn't it basically a rehash of another car?

"Everybody wins"... :yuk:

How awesome it is to have so shrinked P1 grid divided into 2-team Privateers' Championship (officially LMP1 Trophy) and 2-entry Manufacturers' Championship. I'd much prefer a single championship for all P1 entries, doesn't matter what it is called, like the old WS(P)C had (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1989_World ... _for_Teams).

Has to asked would it be more beneficial to the privateers to have their names next to factory team names or in a sub-championship that even less people care about.

Technically no, in reality yes. It's a 2014 tub, which means it isn't actually built off of anything else. But it's clearly heavily based on the Lola B12/60, with quite a lot of aerodynamic ideas from the R18. But the whole idea of P1 and P2 now is that P1 is for works manufacturers and P2 is for privateers. And this Lotus, while a pile of arse, is a works effort and should have been a P1 car.

Edit: Turns out this Lotus is designed and built by the group who were hacking up the old Dallara F1 car for HRT. Yeah, that explains it.

I'd much rather the private P1 entries get the prize money for being best of the private teams than literally never getting near the podium. Whilst we only have 3 cars (2 Rebellion, 1 Strakka) at the moment, the fact that this trophy is now a thing could lead to an expanded grid. The other option is these cars don't ever get looked at and we lose them from the grid and only have Audi and Toyota.

On the topic of the race and future, it's nice to see that the Audi now has bumped up the pace. Toyota really raised the bar in terms of outright performance and they were already more organised and less chaotic than Peugeot (which is what really cost Peugeot titles and LM wins over the years), so it was only a matter of time until they were going to dominate unless Audi answered the call. The Toyota at Silverstone was still the 2012 car, so the performance gap isn't worrying. At Spa we'll see what Toyota has to offer. But there's no doubt the 2013 version of the R18 is seriously impressive.

And it was good to see the McNish of old back. Tom K and Allans stints were brilliant. It was like going back in time. I'll be trackside at Le Mans again, and if it isn't a win for Tom and Allan I'll be disappointed.

Why Toyota used 2012 car in Silverstone?

They launched their 2013 car quite long ago

It was an Evaluation car. I had the aerodynamic components of 2012 but the engine was already 2013 spec.

because it's not ready and needs more dev. #8 will be still 2012 at Spa:

Quote:
"It gives us more time to develop the 2013 car," Toyota Racing technical director Pascal Vasselon told SPEED.com. "If you want to be ready at the very beginning of the season, you cut short your development time. We have a test in two weeks at Portimao [to continue development]."

Toyota’s 2013 car, which mainly features aerodynamic developments, as well as improvements to its super capacitor-based hybrid system, will debut at Spa in the hands of the No. 7 crew only, with both entries getting the updated package for Le Mans.

If there was a single championship listing, there could still be a "Privateer Cup" or something inside the championship, but not resulting in a totally separate standings listing (as it only underlines the lack of entries in both championships). And then only the best privateer could be awarded - if there are only two teams, finishing 2nd is same as finishing last.

Btw, prize money? Is there any given in the first place? Can't find from the sporting regs.

I agree with what you're saying, it doesn't work with a low car count. But the point of it is to help increase the car count
