Which Car Will GAINSCO Race? (Updated Thursday at 1:45 p.m.)

While Bob Stallings was announcing that the team will not race the No. 99 chassis this weekend - bringing in the No. 98 for the Rolex 24 - the team was re-evaluating damage sustained in a morning incident in the high-speed kink when a GT car moved in front of the No. 99 Chevrolet Riley.

"The Rolex 24 is essentially 10 races in one race so we have to bring a lot of extra parts," Stallings said. :What we don't bring is a second chassis. Backup cars are not allowed in this series to help contain costs."

Stallings said the incident twisted the chassis, with Jimmie Johnson bruised but OK. "He feels ugly but OK. He's not injured in any way. He may be sore, but there's no reason for him not to race this weekend."

The team - with Johnson pitching in with his aircraft - began planning to move engineers between Orlando and Houston, shipping in the No. 98 chassis.

"We know that car," Stallings said. "We won a championship (2007) and won a record number of races (seven) in that car. Alex (Gurney) said 'this might be a blessing.' It was a minor setback. The car is undriveable, and we will not race it in this event."

However, while Stallings was meeting with the media, the team was re-evaluating the No. 99.

For what it's worth, JJ tossed the 99 off on oil dropped by the #7 up at turn 4 before ending up in the tyre wall in the middle of the track, apparently it was a pretty hard hit.

As for socks, I have plenty considering I live 10 minutes away. I'll be bringing many pairs. :p

Oops, I lied. The fluids were dropped by the 7 which caused the 95 incident.

Noticed the Beyer Racing #2 was a late addition to the grid and didn't compete in any sessions today. I looks like they purchased the Crawford chassis from the defunct Childress-Howard team.

Good to see them enter..I figured they were going to when I saw they had moved their hauler. (FYI Beyer Racing and Jared Beyer, are located about 5 miles from my house..Thats how I can see the hauler.)

Not at all, the Crawford they're running this year is the same one they ran last year alongside their Riley. The Crawford from last year has not yet appeared.

Agreed entirely... The Menards Coyote looks fantastic close up, very bright but very striking. The FlySAA #7 Starworks car is also really really good, it's got the South African tail on the sidepods and a bit of a design on the front, it's very simple but really attractive. Best of all though is the #60 Mike Shank car. It's different than he's run in the past but themaroon, white, and sort of orange colour look brilliant together. Can't wait for race day! :D

Not so ugly, those DP's. Especially the Ganassi's. 8)

The #08 Sigalsport Ferrari finally turned up this morning for practice, but it's been riddled with problems, stopping on track a fee times. The Turner BMW was looking good until it caught fire about 10 minutes ago during final practice. Unsure of the current status...
