Dome has revealed plans to return to the Le Mans 24 Hours this season in partnership with Team Pescarolo.

Ahead of the ACO’s official confirmation later this afternoon, the Japanese firm has announced it has secured one of the 56 entries for its updated S102.5 LMP1 coupe which last raced at La Sarthe in 2008.

With little time to research smaller alternative options, the S102.5 will feature a 3.4-litre Judd V8 engine, as well as the now mandatory shark fin engine cover and holes above each wheel arch.

Despite failing to finish the last time it contested Le Mans, Dome’s original petrol-powered S102 did not lack for pace against its diesel rivals. That should be the case again in 2012 with ex-Peugeot factory drivers Nicolas Minassian and Sebastien Bourdais both already confirmed behind the wheel. A third driver, almost certainly Japanese, will be announced shortly.

Although Dome plans to entirely self-fund the project, it will outsource race preparation and running duties to Henri Pescarolo’s popular outfit who, having secured two entries, will also run its regular eponymous LMP1 chassis at Le Mans this season.

The Dome is scheduled to make its first public appearance at the European Le Mans Series pre-season test at Paul Ricard on March 9/10. That will be followed by the S102.5’s race debut during Spa’s six-hour World Endurance Championship round in May ahead of Le Mans itself.

Apparently this is the new (Well updated) Dome:

I like how there's a lot of closed cockpit LMP1/2 cars now as I always thought they looked better than the open top cars.

Excellent...

Quote:
As I always speak out, Dome is not interested in or proud of strategy or techniques to manage the 24-hour long race because we are a racecar constructor. Le Mans 24 Hours is an endurance race indeed, but what Dome aims is the speed in the qualifying sessions in which the true performance of the racecars is tested. [...] Following the policy of ours, we have asked Pescarolo to cancel the 24 hour test Pescarolo had originally planned but have asked to have as many short tests as possible during which we will develop and set-up the car. I am pretty certain the guys in the French squad are shocked to know how we prepare for the 24-hour race, though...

That’s how we have ended up with the very egoistic programme for the 2012 Le Mans 24 Hours.

lolwut, AMR-None might surface again and not in the DeltaWang reincarnation:

The Pescarolo team would also be likely to enter a Aston Martin AMR-One in the World Endurance Championship if the application is approved by the ACO.

About the DeltaWing, how hte ACO going to deal with it?

It's 'unclassified', so what if it's faster than a LMP2, or even a LMP1?
