The ACO has announced the major changes expected for the 2012 Technical and Sporting regulations, though they're not available in full just yet.

http://www.lemans.org/en/races/intercon ... _5410.html

For those that can't read the awful, generically-translated ACO press releases, the major talking point is undoubtedly the equivalence for next year. The diesels, based on the timing loops at Spa and Le Mans, and the data loggers throughout the year, will be pegged back approximately 7% in terms of engine performance by means of restrictors and turbo boost. Obviously that's not an outright 7% performance drop, but it will be interesting exactly how much they lose in overall performance come Sebring... Will also be interesting to see how early Toyota shows up next year given this announcement.

EDIT: Deggis you whore.

In addition, the engineers were contacted and asked to provide under guaranteed secrecy all the technical information about their engine.

Quote:
Vincent Beaumesnil, the Automobile Club de l’Ouest’s Sports Manager: "Our main objective was not to put everybody on an equal footing in terms of performance (lap times), but to define the true potential of each of the competing technologies."

I think we have partly misunderstood that 2% lap time difference rule... because it sounds like the approach has been more theoretical all along which is what I have wanted to happen.

Quote:
To improve rearward visibility (with the exception of the LM P1s), the size of the rearview mirrors will be increased, and they must be equipped with a night mode as well as an electrical adjustment system that enables the driver in the cockpit to alter the rearview mirrors to meet his needs. The camera system at the rear will be mandatory on LM GTE cars and allowed on all the others.

Surprising? but sensible solution.

Group-C cars will be back at Le Mans next year as support series.

No Detroit for ALMS (as predicted, since it clashes with the LM test day): http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/95298

Unfortunately doesn't sound like it's a full WEC schedule yet.

one of the best uses of the "y u no"-meme I've seen so far.

I try not to care about Le Mans 2012. I've got one major uni-test on race-Saturday, and another major test on the Monday after. So I'll basically have zero time to watch racing :(

Initially the programme is only confirmed for the 2012 season, and a full race schedule has yet to be decided upon. One of those areas is the brand that the car will race under, it could be a TMG, a Toyota or even a Lexus.

Am I looking at it from the wrong angle, or is that a very slim cockpit?

I doubt they'll ever use that livery in races though.

I always had the feeling that Dome's S102 wasn't just a flash in the pan, even though it only raced once (at Le Mans '08).

Nothing has been confirmed, of course. But if I were a betting man, I'd certainly wager that Dome have been instrumental in this new assault on LM from Japan.
