Yeah but the Porsche is so flexible you can move the bodywork with 1 finger on the rear end.

Nissan are calling the active braking flap on the rear of the ZEOD a DRS system. They're completely the opposite things, which means the ZEOD has a drag reduction system that causes more drag.

There's not enough :slaphead: for that. Are they really that stupid?

Yes and they think we are too.

We're already seeing 3:23s during the first test session. We'll break the magical 3:20 barrier this year, without a doubt.

Tbh, I have some doubts. Well, if the track layout is slightly faster this year, due to this minor changes, then I don' know. But if it is the same as last years', I'm not that confident.

The fastest pole ever at Spa was done in 2010 with a 1.57.8. On the same year they did 1.19.7 at Le Mans qualifying

Albeit this years' Spa qualifying had a damp track, it didn't see they could lap that fast.

Now that I'm at it, it's odd that Peugeot could lap that fast in 2009 and 2010 while Audi/Toyota could never repeat those times on the following years. What did Peugeot had to be so fast even when compared to the 1000HP of this year's cars?

Best time from Audi on last years' test day was 1.22.5 and the pole(by the same car) was 1.22.3

Albuquerque and Kristensen with exact same time, btw

That's not a valid comparison as the cars are completely different now. The entire chassis rules changed. The fact the new cars are even down at 3:23 is incredible.

The 1000 hp figures are a bit over-touted, since of course it is only available when they have collected enough energy (not the case for Sarthe but Toyota actually can't do that on all tracks, because they can do that only during braking vs. exhaust heat). Toyota's official (bullshit) figure for the combustion engine is 512.

This year's cars also have narrower tyres but my question is also to the previous cars which were designed under pretty much the same regulations that the Peugeots of 2009/2010. I never understood why Audi and Toyota could never replicate that speed

Btw, very good photos all the way through this page:

Because the engines got detuned. That's why Audi moved from open to closed cars for 2011, because the reduction in power meant that low drag became more important than the simplicity of some of the systems of the car. It's also why in 2011 especially you could see the fumes of the diesel, because the fuel air mixture was higher.

As deggis says, this years cars don't have 1000hp on tap. They have 500hp from a combustion engine (approx) and 500hp when the hybrid unit is fully charged and utilised.

Haven't been able to follow the final part. Any news on the car condition of the Rebellion?

Yeah, this part I know. But they still have 1000HP during some parts of the lap, in qualifying at least.

Toyota are still looking strong. Also, Audi's 3rd car a hare? Would be interesting if it would run an all-out qualifying setup during the race to wear out the competition. If they aren't already doing that, lol.

ACO appear to be testing the slow zone procedure but in an unusual way. They have a safety car out right now (during testing..?) AND are testing a slow zone on the start and finish straight. But the slow zone speeds are REALLY slow, and the safety car is faster than the slow zone, so the cars aren't keeping up. Why are we testing a SC AND a slow zone together?

Edit: cars reporting they cannot actually go as slow as the slow zone limit without overheating and other various engine issues.

I really hope they abandon this shitty idea soon before other series get wind of it.

Code 60's are great if executed well, which is the case over here and in Holland.

Fuck purism, Safety cars are the safest and more entertaining way to deal with incidents.

And I'm only a marshal at a Kart Track, but we can deal with the incidents a lot quicker and safer when the karts are on the other side of the track and we have time to sort them properly and can communicate with each other without the noise of the engines than when the karts are trundling by, even at reduced speed.

I know Le Mans has had issues with safety car deployment (as does anyone who listens to RLM commentary. It's hilarious :p ) but this sounds like it's going to open up an entirely new can of worms as opposed to the already known problems SC periods throw up.

TL;DR if the ACO fuck up relatively simple SC deployment do we really expect them to run this new system well too?

Is code 60 the same as what they run at the Nordschleife? Works great there. I hate SCs in endurance racing.

Three hours of safety car to repair barriers < everything, though.

By the way, Aston Martin was incredibly weak today, weird.
